Job objectives and responsibilities
The Painter is responsible for carrying out painting tasks to support all Work Area Packages of the contract, maintaining high standards of personal presentation, and adhering to health and safety rules and procedures.
Main duties
Prepare and paint internal and external surfaces using emulsions, masonry paint, gloss, varnish, and specialist coatings. Treat and prime corroded areas, including fuel tanks and pipelines, using appropriate methods (e.g., wire brushing, sanding, rust treatment). Apply coatings such as Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO) to designated structures. Prepare timber surfaces with primers, undercoats, gloss, and wood preservatives. Wash down heavily soiled surfaces and ensure proper preparation before painting. Remove fixtures, protect surfaces with dust sheets, and clean tools after use. Erect scaffolding or ladders as required for elevated tasks. Report defects, damage, or pest infestations promptly to the Supervisor. Complete work dockets and weekly timesheets accurately. Promote Mitie's professional image in all interactions with customers and external agencies. Carry out additional tasks as directed by line management.Person Specification
Education

Essential
Proven experience in industrial painting, including large-scale works and structural steel. Competent in standard paint systems (emulsion, undercoat, gloss, varnish) and associated preparation techniques. Understanding of Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH, manual handling, and safe working practices. Ability to complete accurate work records, timesheets, and task documentation. Full UK Driving Licence.Desirable
Experience working in military or remote environments. Familiarity with specialist coatings such as Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO). Previous experience in customer-focused roles.Personal Qualities
