JOB SUMMARY:

Prime and paint aircraft and parts. Utilizing various hand tools, pneumatic tools, HVLP spray guns and E-Stat paint guns. Prepare and smooth aircraft surface for primer and paint. Mix aerofill or bodyfiller, primers, surfacers, and paint colors to obtain desired color or consistency.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Under close guidance of higher-grade Painters, performs surface preparation of aircraft prior to painting. Marks areas to be filled. Mixes hardener and filler. Applies hardener and filler to unfinished areas needing smoothing and contouring.

· Spray primer, paint filler and protective paint on prepared surfaces on a routine or repetitive basis and checks own work for coverage.

· Mixes paint according to specifications.

· Prepares plastic or fiberglass parts of aircraft using filler to provide uniform surface for paint adhesion. Uses painting equipment including brushes and spray guns to perform minor rework, touchup, priming, finish painting of partial aircraft when not otherwise engaged in paint preparation duties.

· Roughs and finishes aircraft parts using various types of sandpaper and hand sanding machines to provide surface for paint adhesion and smooth appearance.

· Works from oral and written instructions and established procedures.

· Prepares painted surfaces. Spray primers or various paint finishes to parts, assemblies, or completed aircraft. Uses some judgment in obtaining desired finish. May work under the guidance and instruction of higher-grade Painters.

· Professionally applies paint to surface maintaining finish requirements acceptable to shop supervision and quality control.

· Adjusts and cleans spray gun and equipment or other company tools checked out for performing job assignments with appropriate solvents.

· Responsible only for own work.

· Performs other related duties as required – applying alodine, washing aircraft or sealing a variety of components.

· Must maintain passing grades on all schoolwork required for program completion.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

· Requires a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.

· No experience required. Experience in paint preparation and/or aircraft spray painting or equivalent experience preferred.
