Job Title: Packaging Operator
Job Description

The Packaging Operator is responsible for overseeing all packaging functions, ensuring that the equipment is utilized to meet quality, productivity, and packaging standards. The role includes operating a forklift as needed and adhering to Work Instructions as outlined.

ResponsibilitiesInitiate, monitor, and confirm accurate and timely packaging of products.Check materials at finishing lines to capture work codes and customer formats, ensuring customer needs are met.Secure necessary packaging materials in advance, including skids, pallets, cardboard, paper, plastic, and banding.Check packaged material for accuracy and quality.Confirm weights on material off scale and dunnage weights, entering proper parking locations in the computer.Coordinate movement of material through shipping bays, liaising with Cranemen for efficient material movement.Coordinate work at packaging line for multiple coils exiting Slitter and Blanking Line for maximum efficiency.Ensure correct pack codes, quality, and efficiency for downended coils; confirm weights and dunnages, and enter material correctly in computer.Maintain inventory of packing needs at pack fields, including wood, paper, plastic products, banding tools, shrink wrap guns, and propane.Assist in packaging needs by redistributing packers or working with packers to ensure smooth and efficient operations.Direct unanswered questions through the chain of command in the shipping section.Monitor and correct safety activities as necessary.Train on-shift utility personnel in the packaging section, motivating pack crews to achieve outlined results.Perform other jobs as assigned.Essential SkillsForklift experience (1+ year)Packaging and packing experienceExperience in a warehouse environmentAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience in a warehouse or manufacturing environmentHigh School Diploma or GEDExperience operating a forklift is highly preferredPacking or shipping experience is preferredWhy Work Here?

This position offers a chance to enter the steel industry, which provides stable career opportunities globally. After completing 500 hours, there are two permanent positions available. The role provides hands-on training and opportunities to learn how to run the production line as an operator.

Work Environment

The position is based in a clean stainless steel manufacturer/distributor. The warehouse is not climate controlled, so it will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with availability required from 5 AM to 5 PM. Weekend work may be required if supply chain demands increase.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of PENDERGRASS, Georgia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
