Packaging Engineering Intern

Job Description

Work Arrangement:

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Burton, MI on a full-time basis.

The Team:

Join the Packaging Optimization team and become part of one of the most dynamic and innovative organizations within General Motors. Our mission is to provide GM with a competitive advantage through exemplary services and solutions.

As part of the Packaging Optimization team, you will be interacting with industry leaders, attending cross-functional events, and volunteering for community service activities. You will gain valuable work experience in one of the following areas:

Global Aftersales Packaging Engineering

What You'll Do:

Support the complete packaging development process including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing

Fix new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials, processes and provides creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions

Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to resolve physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging

Evaluate and select packaging suppliers / vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews

Handle multiple projects simultaneously

Works closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing

Participate in product introduction teams to deliver new products to market

Required Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related field

Graduating between December 2026 and June 2027

Able to work full time, 40 hours per week

Demonstrated leadership in field of study, extra-curricular activities, or service organizations
