Position: Senior Packaging Engineer

Job Summary:
The Senior Packaging Engineer develops and optimizes packaging solutions that ensure product integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across Abbott production sites and external manufacturers. This role drives sustainable packaging initiatives, reducing environmental impact through innovative materials and processes while supporting new product launches, technology transfers, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance quality and cost-effectiveness.
Major Responsibilities:
Packaging Design & Optimization
Develop and optimize packaging solutions for solid, liquid, and sterile pharmaceutical products.Select appropriate materials based on product, process, and sustainability requirements.Conduct packaging tests in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, ISTA).Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for packaging-related issues.Technical Documentation & Compliance
Ensure that packaging specifications are fully compliant with GMP, GDP, Change Control procedures, and applicable regulatory requirementsAuthor and review technical documentation, including risk assessments, protocols for trials, qualifications, validations, and FAT/SAT.Participate in audits and inspections as the packaging SME.Project Management
Lead packaging-related projects, including equipment installations, line transfers, and sustainability initiatives.Identify and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as QA, MS&T, Engineering, Labelling and Production.Engage with regional and divisional packaging networks to foster knowledge sharing and communities of practice.Ensure effective project reporting across various levels of the Abbott organization.Material & Equipment Support
Evaluate and qualify packaging materials (e.g., blisters, bottles, cartons, labels).Interface with equipment vendors and material suppliers to ensure technical compatibility and performance.Support scale-up activities, packaging transfers, and packaging line qualification/validation.
Education/Knowledge & Experience:
Science graduate or Master ; preferably Pharm D, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Technology, or a related field4 - 5 years’ experience in the same capacity; preferably in a GMP-regulated environmentProfound knowledge of packaging equipment, materials, and regulatory requirementsStrong Experience with Investigations and change controlProficiency in technical writing and documentationExcellent project management and communication skillsStrong communication Skill and Fluency in English
