The Packaging Engineer manages the development of structural packaging up to product launch. This includes working with marketing, internal business groups (Philips Platform Team, Product Industrialization Engineer, Quality, System Engineer, etc.), contract manufacturing, and suppliers. This fulfills a part (packaging execution) of the new product introduction process as well as portfolio improvement opportunities (LCM projects).
This position is part of a cross-functional team accountable for execution of the concept creation, design and qualification for all packaging structures for global markets.
Project Management:
Manage packaging execution projects with internal marketing, Philips Platform Team, purchasing, System Engineer/Quality and suppliers
Prioritizes workload based on business needs. Balance workload to ensure timely launches within cross-functional team framework.
Packaging execution:
Developed structural packaging concepts appropriate for each project based on Philips Platform and Marketing inputs.
Ensure packaging concepts are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, quality and cost requirements.
Oversee packaging design process, ensuring designs meet Philips requirements for customer attractiveness, structural quality and sustainability.
Create specifications for packaging designs including pulp trays, folding cartons, corrugated boxes and pallet layouts.
Coordinate packaging quality testing per international shipping standards.
Determines logistics parameters for new packaging structures (e.g. weights, dims, material content)
As needed, work with external suppliers to develop packaging structures that meet project requirements.
Provide inputs to other functions for maintaining packaging sustainability and substance compliance
Conduct and document packaging design reviews per project milestones.
Others:
Coordinate prototype tool builds and product tests.
Create documents, specifications, Bill of Materials (BoM) in the PDM system
Coordinate prototype builds and test requests
Provide support to cross functional team with PDM system responsibilities
Experiences required :
Design and/or manufacturing of:
Paperboard and corrugate structures, thermoformed blister, pulp trays, flexible plastic/paper bags
Working knowledge of: ArtiosCAD, CAPE Pack, Adobe Illustrator, Solidworks/CREO,Nx
Experiences preferred :
Understanding of Life Cycle Analysis
Knowledge of ISTA protocols
Root cause analysis of packaging tests failure
Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices
Knowledge of Product Data Management System, e.g. Windchill or Agile
Project management skills, including planning and organization skills
Microsoft Office suite

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.
Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
