Upstream Rehabilitation, is looking for a Documentation and Coding Specialist to join our team
JOB SUMMARY:
The Documentation and Coding Specialist services the clinics and assists with Documentation & Coding related items. This position requires proficiency in HIPAA, Medicare, and Documentation & Coding regulations. This position is responsible for supporting the mission, vision and values of Upstream Rehabilitation.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an APTA approved physical therapy or physical therapy assistant program, AOTA approved occupational therapy, or certified occupational therapy assistant program with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate, or equivalent.1-3 years’ experience as a physical therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist assistant or certified occupational therapist assistant in an outpatient clinical setting.Requires current licensure or license-eligible in state where assigned.JOB FUNCTIONS:
Establish internal and external relationships of mutual trust and respect.Check and respond to phone calls, email, voicemail, and faxes in a timely manner.Attendance at all necessary meetings, including but not limited to, corporate staff meetings, department meetings, small group meetings, 1:1 meetings.Travel to clinics for in-services, staff meetings, education, and other clinical service needs, with some overnight stays, as needed.Perform chart audits for individual therapists.Perform medical record reviews and feedback for special projects, as directed.Review Medicare charts for medical necessity and provide feedback in a timely manner.Review MVAL charts for medical necessity and provide feedback in a timely manner.Respond to Medicare 3rd party audits in a timely manner, as needed.Direct and assist clinical staff with appeal letters for third party payer denials, as needed.Maintain logs to track medical record reviews, federal money refunds, and special projects, as assigned.Contact newly hired therapists and provide feedback regarding documentation.Complete research and implement necessary changes, including state legislation and laws, on physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, and athletic training profession and regulations, as directed.Remains abreast and completes necessary research on Medicare regulations, including Local Coverage Determinations (LCD), National Coverage Determinations (NCD), Medicare Policy Manuals, Merit Based Incentive Program (MIPS), HIPAA, and other programs.Assist with creation and implementation of Documentation and Coding training materials and modules, as needed.Seeks out and attends continuing education pertinent to clinical position and any clinical service functions as applicable.Complies with standards related to confidentiality of patient and organization information and activities and follows proper protocols in releasing any information.Performs other duties as assigned.Follow @Lifeatupstream on Instagram, and check out our LinkedIn company page to learn more about what it’s like to be part of the #upstreamfamily.
