JOB SUMMARY

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The employee may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

\tResponsible for providing therapy services consistent with licensure to clients including evaluation of patient, establishing plan of care, implementing treatment, directing, and educating patient and/or caregiver and documentation of the above.\tSupervise designated therapy team members.\tCommunicate with other health care providers regarding client care and treatment plans.\tProvide training and education for hospital staff as requested.\tComplete patient documentation in a timely manner to meet regulatory and organizational requirements.\tAttend continuing education programs and present findings to appropriate staff.\tDemonstrate ethical standards of practice and professional qualities.\tReview and complete all insurance authorization requirements for patients.\tAssist with performance improvement for therapy department and hospital.\tSupervises orientation of new staff members.\tPerforms annual performance reviews, coaching and counseling for direct reports. \tResponsible for the development and scheduling of staff in their respective areas.  \tActs as a coach, mentor, and role model for other staff members.\tPerforms other duties as assigned by leader(s).\tPerforms supervisory duties in absence of leader(s).

Patient Care: Delivers care that is consistent with the team member’s discipline in accordance with the specific therapy practice act, guidelines, and code of ethics of the respective organization, i.e., APTA, ASHA, AOTA.  

\tCompletes patient evaluations and treatments independently while maintaining patient safety. \tAppropriately seeks guidance and assistance when necessary.  \tIndependently establishes/implements treatment goals and plans based on patient input and evaluation and assessment results.  \tReassesses outcomes and modifies goals and plans to meet changing needs of the patient. \tSchedules patient activities according to patient individual needs. 

Teamwork: Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members and coworkers. 

\tFunctions as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.  \tAccepts responsibility for actions; seeks, accepts, and acts positively upon feedback from others.  \tShares responsibility for effective internal communications through a team approach.  \tOrganizes individual patient caseload in collaboration with team workload demands.  \tPerforms daily administrative/office activities to ensure efficient flow of care within team. 

Technical Competency: Demonstrates technical competencies and job knowledge as it pertains to rehabilitative care.  

\tAcquires and maintains knowledge of clinical therapy practice by identifying continuing education needs and participating in educational opportunities.  \tProvides orientation and guidance to new rehabilitation staff in work area as requested.  

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited PT, OT, or SLP program.

Experience: 3 years of supervisory experience and experience relative to work setting preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure: Virginia State Therapy License or Compact Privilege.

The job requires standing and walking constantly and frequently bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
