Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning.
Warehouse Operations is responsible for performing/controlling a combination of manual or automated tasks necessary for the receipt, storage, and shipment of product. This may include functions of receiving, picking, packing, shipping, staging, transporting, storage, delivery, etc. Also responsible for the efficient flow of products from the point of product receipt from vendors to the shipment of products (via prescribed service parameters) to a variety of internal and external customers.
Job Summary
The Outbound Manager, Warehouse Operations, oversees the building’s outbound processing, including picking, packing, and shipping to achieve operational efficiency and safety. Through successful operational and people management, the Outbound Operations Manager delivers on the business unit’s short-term goals, improves profitability, and develops the business unit’s warehouse talent. This job also responds to urgent customer needs or supply disruptions to ensure customer commitments are fulfilled.
Location/Shift:
Location: This is an on-site position (5 days a week) based out of Cardinal Health’s Aurora, IL distribution center supporting pharmaceutical supply chain operations.
Night Shift Support: Sunday-Thursday Night Shift - Schedule assignment will vary based on work demands. Must be able to provide adequate support for associates working Sunday nights from 5:00pm-1:30am (or until finish) and Monday-Thursday nights from 6:00pm-2:30am (or until finish).
Responsibilities
Lead and direct a team of 4 Supervisory direct reports and approximately 125 associate indirect reports on the outbound operations shift.
Ensure the timely distribution and receipt of product while meeting the distribution center standards of budget, policies, procedures and quality.
Lead initiatives designed to improve processes or continuous improvement projects throughout the facility.
Provide leadership to the team and challenge the status quo; interact with employees on the floor and in an office setting.
Influence and understand the business and culture strategy and translate the strategy into executable initiatives for their department.
Interface with customers and suppliers to resolve issues and participate in regularly scheduled meetings (this may include travel up to 25%).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams at all levels within the organization, (Human Resources, Transportation, Sales, Finance, and Safety).
Cultivate positive relationships with peers and coworkers.
Interview and make hiring decisions for supervisor, lead and niche roles.
Develop the supervisory and employee population, which includes training, coaching, counseling and performance appraisals.
Manage the distribution operation utilizing appropriate systems to track, analyze and improve day-to-day operational metrics.
Hold Supervisors accountable for their respective department KPI’s.
Enforce Cardinal Health compliance and regulations for OSHA, DEA, FDA, state and local authorities, primary facility contact for QRA compliance.
Manage site financial metrics including profit and loss and budgets.
Qualifications
5+ years of relevant experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
3+ years of supervisory/management experience, preferred
Possess strong communication and relationship building skills (i.e., have the ability to manage change)
Experience working within a warehouse (or distribution) environment, preferred
Inventory planning and processing experience, preferred
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel (Pivot Tables and spreadsheets)
Experience working within ERP’s (SAP or Manhattan), preferred
Prior experience with continuous improvement projects and initiatives
Adaptable to operational needs
Ability to problem solve through complex scenarios and drive change
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to bend, reach, stoop, lift and stand for entire shift
Proficiency in English is required, including being able to read and write in English in order to process documents

Anticipated salary range: $96,700 - $138,200 annually
