Job Title: Communications Technician II
Job Summary:
The Communications Technician II serves as a skilled member of a technical team, responsible for performing advanced installation and troubleshooting tasks in structured cabling systems. This role also includes leading small teams of installers, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, and coordinating daily project activities.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Install and route 4" microduct and structured cabling systems in accordance with industry labeling and installation standards.
+ Perform cable testing, including continuity testing of horizontal and riser cables, using tools such as volt-ohmmeters and tone generators.
+ Troubleshoot and resolve issues such as opens, shorts, crosses, and transposed pairs.
+ Identify and verify active voice and data circuits.
+ Lead and coordinate small crews, ensuring timely completion of tasks and adherence to safety and quality protocols.
+ Accurately complete all required documentation, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, and change orders.
+ Maintain compliance with all company, client, and industry safety and quality standards.
+ Perform additional duties as assigned by project leadership.
Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or GED required.
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field.
+ Demonstrated ability to supervise and train others.
+ Proficient in interpreting blueprints, specifications, and project documentation.
+ Familiarity with universal telecommunications color codes.
+ Must meet minimum driving standards and possess required tools.
Skills & Competencies:
+ Strong skills in cable terminations, testing, and troubleshooting.
+ Experience with rack and stack installations, punchdowns, and Cat6 cabling.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a construction environment.
+ Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
+ Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
+ Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and moving up to 75 lbs.
+ Must be able to distinguish color codes, read small print, and recognize audible signals.
+ Willingness to travel within the assigned territory as needed.
+ Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $30.00/hr.
