Job Summary

The Orthopedic Technician assists physicians, surgeons, and health providers. They set stabilization devices and use technology for bone care.

Essential Functions of the Role

Assists physician in procedures requiring aseptic techniques, observing standard precautions. Prepares patient and equipment for examination or procedure to help physician efficiency. Operates and maintains equipment safely, following established policies and procedures. Safely transports cart to different facility areas, as needed.Applies and removes casts, splints, and orthopedic appliances for the patient. Ensures the appropriate level of comfort and fit, including specialty casts like Hip Spica and Muenster type casts. Accurately fits the patient with the correct size and type of brace and splint for optimal outcomes. Observes the patient, recognizes changes in condition, and promptly seeks assistance.Communicates effectively with the patient about the procedure's process and maintenance. Provides reassurance and education. Clearly explains the procedure to each patient before starting. This helps the patient feel comfortable with the process.Demonstrates proper application of a brace and splint.Teaches patients exercises for specific injuries to aid healing. Demonstrates exercises after ACL or Rotator Cuff surgery. Demonstrates ankle or extremity motion range after cast removal.Maintains a clean and usable work environment to improve patient care. Orders and keeps enough equipment and supplies for assigned areas.Takes personal responsibility to participate in performance improvement activities and initiatives. Attends in-service education.Removes stitches, staples, and provides debridement for wounds if required.

EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED EquivalentEXPERIENCE - 1 Year of Experience
