Orthopedic Casting Tech

Days - Full Time

Position Summary / Career Interest:Under the direction of a Physician, Registered Nurse, or other designated licensed health care professional, the Orthopedic Casting Technician assumes responsibility for performing and/or assisting with treatments and procedures; monitors and maintains equipment and provides patient /family education related to Orthopedic Services.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

Performs tasks as delegated by the Physician, Registered Nurse or other delegated licensed health care professional including but not limited to:Application and removal of casting/splinting, and/or braces under the direction/supervision of the orthopedic providers.Application and removal of post-op bandages/dressingsWound care-including but not limited to pin carePerforms appropriate documentation and patient education in patient’s chart related to casting/splinting as directed by Dr, NP, PA, or RNMaintains and inventories casting equipment; works with department Manager on purchasing new equipment and securing repairsPerforms duties as assigned in the Orthopedic physician clinic under the direction of a licensed health care professionalConducts education/casting workshops for staffMust be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Required Education and Experience

High School GraduateLess than 1 year of experience in orthopedic clinic/setting


Preferred Education and Experience

Technical or professional trainingLess than 1 year of experience as casting tech


Required Licensure and Certification

Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA)


Preferred Licensure and Certification

Certified Orthopedic Technician or Certified Orthopedic Casting Technician


Knowledge Requirements

Knowledge of orthopedic devices and their usageFamiliarity with medical terminology
