Office of Unemployment Insurance
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) administers the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program, which supports eligible workers during periods of involuntary unemployment. The program is governed by the Louisiana Employment Security Law and involves two main operational components: UI Tax Operations and UI Benefit Operations
AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:

•Making accurate Judgements:The ability to form an opinion objectively and decisively based on relevant information and in accordance with established standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in unemployment insurance, workforce development programs, workers’ compensation, administrative services, or social services; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
A bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
•Receives inbound and makes outbound calls as it relates to all claim types.
•Assists claimants with questions as they relate to overpayments and collections of overpayments. May also be required to assist claimants with filing weekly certifications, filing a new claim, etc.
•Conducts additional fact-finding; interprets the law, draws conclusions, and renders written monetary or non-monetary determination to an interested party as applied to Employment Security Law, when applicable.
•Processes weekly payment requests; reviews claim history; obtains and processes information to determine if an overpayment should be assessed based on missing wages or disqualifications assessed; adjusts balances accordingly; conducts eligibility reviews;
•Processes daily reimbursements, reconciles the Daily Register, Revenue Register, and any additional reimbursements and reconciliations determined and found applicable; plans and communicates program laws and regulations to the unemployed, employers, elected officials, and other interested parties.
•Compiles and submits reports identifying needed improvements of Benefit Payment Control's processes; attends training sessions related to updates or changes to procedures, rules, regulations, instructions, and laws.

Appointment Type:This position may be filled as either a Probational or a Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG). It may be filled as an ORS Specialist 1, 2, 3, or 4, at which the vacancy is filled and will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position is an opportunity to advance within this job series. The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
