Job Summary

Battelle’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Business Line is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as an Organic Chemist II. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.

Responsibilities Design and develop practical synthesis routes to target compoundsExecute the synthesis, purification, and characterization of target compounds efficientlyMaintain a detailed laboratory notebook according to corporate standards and SOPsWork closely with all members of the synthesis teamProvide technical input for reportsManage time effectivelyOther duties as assignedKey Qualifications Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry with 5 years of laboratory experience or a PhD in Organic Chemistry.Demonstrated experience in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of small moleculesFamiliarity with common analytical equipment used for characterization of small molecules including Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography coupled with detectors such as Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Liquid Chromatography (LC), Liquid Chromatography coupled with detectors such as Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and NMRThe ability to work in a team environmentExcellent oral and written communication skillsFamiliarity with MS OfficeA commitment to continuous learning and a demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with rapidly-changing priorities.Incumbent must successfully pass medical screening, including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) and work with highly hazardous materialsSole US citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employmentPreferred Qualifications Experience in pharmaceutical product synthesis and/or productionExperience with phosphorus chemistryProposal writing experienceExperience with synthesis of peptides and peptide adductsExperience with prep scale liquid chromatographyPrevious research experience related to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and/or explosive (CBRNE) threatsExperience working with toxic chemicalsExperience operating in an ISO environment
