Job Summary
The Operating Room (OR) Scheduling Coordinator 2 is responsible for maintaining the OR schedule for the Orthopedic Surgeon and serves as the central hub of the surgery scheduling process. This role coordinates communication among patients, surgeons, primary care physicians, anesthesia providers, insurance companies, the hospitals, and surgical representatives. The coordinator schedules surgical cases, guides patients through preoperative requirements, manages schedule changes, and ensures all involved parties are informed. Responsibilities also include obtaining surgical authorization, completing cost estimates, and facilitating surgical collections.
Essential Functions of the Role
Provides scheduling help to ensure department efficiency. Promptly and courteously answers and screens phone calls. Routes calls as appropriate. Accurately records and delivers messages to appropriate parties in a timely manner. Frequently checks voicemail, emails, and block booking.
Coordinates changes, postponements, and cancellations
Monitors surgeon lineup for next day surgeries and revises as needed.
Coordinates procedures with other departments promptly. Accurately completes documents and forms. Clearly communicates directly with surgeons.
Coordinates patient care planning and creates a positive experience for the patient.
Key Success Factors
Previous experience in health care revenue cycle preferred.Requires good listening and communication skills with professional and respectful telephone etiquette.Ability to operate basic office equipment (e.g., computer, fax, copier, scanner, and telephone).Able to multi-task.Able to maintain confidentiality.Excellent data entry, numeric, typing and computer navigation skills.Able to demonstrate precision and flexibility.Belonging Statement
