Job Summary

Fit and adapt eyewear, complete minor eyeglass repairs. Measure patients for interpupillary distance and segment heights. Assist patients in choosing eyeglass frames and lenses, to best suit their needs and prescription requirements. Perform final inspections using digital lensometers.

Use OfficeMate/Eyefinity software to enter orders and process payments. Accurately complete and submit all required paperwork for eyeglass orders and insurance claims. Perform minor repairs, such as frame realignments and replacing broken screws. Greet patients and always maintain a positive attitude.

Required to travel to the Brighton location based on staffing needs.

Required Qualifications*A training course from a community college or equivalent training program is necessaryCertification by the American Board of Opticianry or certification eligibleSkilled in frame styling, adjusting, and minor frame repairsThree years of experience as a dispensing optician

 Work Schedule

Monday-Friday with some evening and weekends possible.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
