Job Family Definition:
This Optical Engineer (coherent) intern position is responsible for system level analysis of high-speed optical fiber communication systems.
Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for performing simulation analysis and experimental investigation of high speed optical communication systems which will inform HPE’s definition of next generation physical layer product lines. You will create a simulation environment using the VPI tool and explore the effects of various system level optical parameters on 1.6Tb/s transmission performance.
Education & Experience:
Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD program in electrical engineering, optical engineering, applied physics or related field, with an emphasis on advanced modulation formats (QAM, PAM, etc.), digital signal processing and/or fiber-optic communication systems technology.Knowledge & Skills:
Background in system technologies applied to advanced photonic modulation formats (QAM, PAM, etc.), including single carrier and/or multi carrier communications systems at speed of 100-Gbit/s and beyond, using coherent or direct detection technology.Knowledge of functional DSP blocks like adaptive MIMO equalizers, carrier phase estimation, timing-recovery, and performance monitoring.Ability to perform numerical simulations on a system level, as well as interpreting and analyzing the simulation results.System-level experimental experience highly preferred.Experience with Matlab and/or C/C++ programming is highly preferred.Must be self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills.Must work well in a collaborative technical environment.Effective communications skills, written and verbal, required. Must be able to effectively communicate technical concepts to experts, as well as non-experts, in the field.Additional Skills:
