OPS Health Support Technician
Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a non-professional position involving a variety of tasks related to the functioning of a school health clinic. This position reports directly to the RN Supervisor for the School Health Program.
Assists the RN in the provision of services to students in accordance with the School Health Services plan.
1. Provides basic first aid to students according to ARC/AHA and health department policy.
2. Administers medication to students according to the county medication policy and procedures, and documents accurately and completely using all required medication forms.
3. Correct paperwork/documentation will be filled out, and distributed as directed by RN, in regard to students with chronic disease.
4. Notifies RN immediately of new health care concerns.
5. Performs original screenings/assists with re-screenings of height, weight, hearing, vision, scoliosis and blood
pressure, as planned, and completes referrals and follow-up in a timely manner.
6. Performs screenings as directed for communicable disease and refers to the RN.
7. Assists RN with the health teaching responsibilities.
8. Refers students to RN for counseling as requested for health or hygiene problems, medical follow-up, social concerns, substance use or other student concerns.
9. Develops and maintains rapport with students, parents and staff.
10. Maintains documentation of services using required forms, cumulative school health record, health room activity log, growth charts and other required documentation.
11. Assists physician in patient exams.
12. Performs chart review of new students and notifies RN of students with chronic disease, non-compliant immunizations, and absence of mandatory physical exam.
13. Provides backup support at Gilchrist CHD clinic/medical records.
14. Answers phones, greets clients, and responds to clients’ needs in a kind, courteous, and timely manner. Communication represents DOH mission and values.
15. Maintains a clean and orderly clinic area; inventories clinic supplies at least monthly.
16. Completes forms for reporting services in the DOH HMS system.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintains CPR and First Aid certifications. Participates in staff meetings and training activities as directed.
Attends trainings to enhance knowledge, skills and abilities as they relate to duties and responsibilities. Maintains professional development through job-related lectures, seminars, online trainings, teleconferences, etc.
Employee is responsible for ensuring his/her EARs and/or CSRs are input and verified in the HMS system in accordance with DOH/HMS guidelines and deadlines. Ensures EARs time is always in agreement with timesheet.
Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which are stored in hard copy or electronic format.
Worksite is Gilchrist County District Schools; supervised by the RN Supervisor for the School Health Program and administratively responsible to the school principal while at the school site.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Have First Aid training, current CPR/Basic Life Support Certificate, have your own transportation and willing to travel.
Qualifications:
Minimum – High School Diploma, Driver’s License
Preferred – Minimum of one year experience working as a Certified Nursing Assistant or other position in another Medical Field, Ability to accurately take vital signs, Ability to communicate well with others, Basic Computer skills, Ability to lift 50lbs and run to any location on school campus where student or staff is in distress, Good organizational skills, Knowledge of normal and abnormal Vitals in kids and adults.
