The University of Miami Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency | LAORA Miami, FL is currently seeking an Organ Allocation Coordinator 2. This position is primarily responsible for the allocation and coordination of donated organs to transplant centers. The OAC acts as the primary liaison with the transplant centers, research facilitates, hospital personnel, and recovery site personnel. This position assist in the training of staff and functions as the AOC during shifts.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
The incumbent in this position coordinates the staff in the operating room for local procurements and abroad (i.e. requiring flight transportation) with clinical recovery and preservation of organs for transplantation, and undertakes extensive communications with transplant center, according to established guidelines.
Responsible for making the necessary call to transplant centers to place the kidneys and pancreas, according to the UNOS requirements.
This process requires exercising clinical judgment and a good fundamental knowledge of organ viability to allow for efficient and effective organ placement practices.
Maintain current knowledge and enforce legal requirements of organ donation. Work according to a call schedule of assigned duties and hours and remain within pager radius to assure that response to all pages will occur in a timely fashion.
Be familiar with all medical aspects of organ donation and bring any questions to the attention of the administrator involved.
Have a basic knowledge of the donor medical requirements and contraindications.
Responsible for accurately collecting, recording, and maintaining clinical records of donors and recipients as required by the program in accordance with UNOS and CMS standards and requirements.
Be responsible and accountable for assigned procurement equipment and supplies.
Maintain a current list of contact numbers of all appropriate UM LAORA/ Transplant personnel and updates list as needed.
This list will be utilized to contact appropriate personnel based on perfusionist's logistical knowledge of organ donation/recovery process in a timely manner. Keeps UM LAORA Associate Director of Recovery and Allocation apprised of all local and import organ activity.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate’s Degree or medical certification, Licensure/Registration, Surgical Technician
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
CPTC Certification required
Sound knowledge of UNOS policy and CMS regulatory requirements in relation to organ allocation, waitlist management as well as ongoing patient status updating.
Experience:
3-5 years of related experience
Transplant center coordinator or previous OPO experience preferred.
Department Specific Functions
Obtain clinical data from DMC re: donor including identifying information, demographics PMH, PSH, serology, biochemical, clinical data and other significant information in order to coordinate transplant operation.
Verify with AOC and/or DMC and enter data into DonorNet, iTransplant and communicate with UNOS to generate waiting list for liver, pancreas, kidneys and intestine, heart and lungs. Knowledge of UNOS policies regarding recipient listing for heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys and intestine and priorities when running the waiting list in DonorNet.
Communicate with local and outside of our DSA transplant centers, present donor offer data to transplant coordinator or MD, interpret lab values and notify RN/MD of abnormal values.
Responsible for coordinating local, regional and national organ placement with on-site transplant coordinator according to established LAORA & UNOS policies.
Document all data re: transplant center donor offer acceptance or denial. Facilitates import kidney and pancreas allocation in accordance with LAORA and UNOS policies, 0 antigen mismatches, multiple organ offers and kidney/pancreas organ offers.
Coordinates preservation support for local and import kidney cases as well as initiates documentation for preservationist on local and import cases.
Coordinate transfer and travel arrangements for all surgical teams participating in the organ recovery.
Prioritize all phone calls while setting up transplant case without supervision.
Communicate and update all information re: organ recovery OR time changes, surgical team changes.
Relays accurate and timely information to appropriate transplant centers. Interacts with Transplant centers following cases to obtain and relay related case information.
Responsible for DonorNet system documentation. Serves as the communication hub for all organ donation activities.
Responsible to communicate with local researchers and national companies such as IIAM, NDRI and others to place all organs and tissues for research those are not eligible for transplant.
Responsible for following the local cases re: cultures. Distribute the culture results to all transplant centers involved in the case.
Interacts with Transplant Centers in follow up, to obtain recipient information Completes UNET system documentation including PTRs, DDRs and feedback. Completes data entry of allocation relevant sections in the EDR.
Responsibilities include participation in applicable Clinical Department activities/committees and attendance at all departmental and staff meetings.
Follow up on accepted by DSA Transplant Centers (TC) import offers from other OPOs, run the local back up list when required by UNOS policies.
Responsible for running local back up list for import kidney offer and notify DSA centers that have patient on the local waiting list.
Communicate and update all information re: Recovery time changes, status of organ, ETA. Keep highly professional customer service under the stress of a fast-paced organ allocation.
Complete DDR after the case to provide it to QAPI and UNOS Notify supervisor of any problems, concerns, or delay while setting up case.
Communicate all outstanding information to the next person covering the Organ Allocation Desk.
Communicate all information regarding local and import cases with DSA Transplant Centers and their Transplant Coordinators.

HOURS: 24/7 365 allocation desk, variable 12-hr Day and Night Shifts
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Department Specific Qualifications
BA/BS in Medical/Biological Science/Nursing or LPN or Paramedic certification or prior experience as an Organ Placement Coordinator preferred.
Minimum of two years college and health care clinical/organ procurement experience will be considered.
