**Operator - Plant Red Hills** **JOB SUMMARY** An Operator is primarily responsible for the operation and maintenance of the power plant on a 24/7 – 365 basis. Additional responsibilities will include monitoring, troubleshooting, and utilizing a computerized work order management system (Maximo®) and supporting other company programs to ensure the Plant Equipment is reliable and efficient. The Operator role will be shift work supporting a 24-7 Operation at Red Hills Operations. **JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)** **_Experience:_** + Previous power plant experience is preferred. + Coal Power plant experience preferred. + Some knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles preferred. + Knowledge of power plant principles preferred. **_Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:_** + Strong understanding of Operational Preventative Maintenance Tasks. + Understand the importance of Equipment Rounds/Daily Checks. + Previous Operations Experience in a Coal Generation Facility is a plus. + Instrumentation or Mechanical experience is a plus. + Ability to read, understand and follow procedures, rules and regulations. + Knowledge of hand tools and the proper application. **_Other Attributes:_** + Strong communication, problem solving, and team skills required. + Demonstrate Our Values + Must be able to handle complex, pressure situations and be adaptable to a changing work environment. + Must be able to support a 24/7 schedule, including holidays. + Basic computer skills and familiarity with work management software (Maximo®) preferred. + Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, and able to organize work with minimal supervision. + **Must successfully pass the POSS/MASS test.** + **Candidates receive email invitations for applicable selection testing. A candidate may not receive an email invitation if not eligible for testing at the time.** + EEI practice tests and study resources for MASS and POSS are available at eei.org: EEI online test preparation materials **JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Operations & Maintenance of Two Alstom Lignite Fired Boilers. + Mechanical Troubleshooting and Maintenance on Balance of Plant equipment (Pumps, Valves, Fans, etc.) + Use the ABB, Allen Bradley, and Siemens DCS control systems to troubleshoot and operate systems within the plant. + Must have a self-directed mindset. + Ability to make sound decisions under pressure. + Support the Equipment Owner program and be a part of the Outage Team in that area of the plant. + Clearly communicate complex issues to leaders and peers to resolve problems quickly and effectively. + Collect and prepare fuel samples as well as complete the documentation for these procedures. + Conduct equipment rounds and daily checks to ensure the equipment is reliable and efficient. + Perform equipment testing on certain equipment. **Other Requirements** + This job requires shift work and overtime + Must be available to respond to call-outs seven days per week + Perform physical activities while wearing respiratory equipment + Perform physical work activities in a power plant environment **About Southern Company** Southern Company (NYSE: SO ) is a leading energy provider serving 9 million customers across the Southeast and beyond through its family of companies.
