About the Role

This is a 16 month co-op term to begin May 2026.  The Mechanical Tooling Engineer/Designer Intern is to assist for the concept, prototyping, design, and development of mechanical tooling to support the manufacturing build processes. This role will interface with the design teams, taking requirements from manufacturing engineers and creating solutions to address capacity, quality and waste reduction.  

Primary Responsibilities 

Design mechanical tooling to support product build, testing, and repairEngage closely with machine shops and operations engineering teams in assembly and verification of new tooling, trouble-shooting existing tools, and procuring parts for prototype units once a design is approvedCreating and/or updating 3D mechanical models in CAD programsWork closely with the customer to gain knowledge of project specificationsGuide internal customers and make recommendations to tooling requirementsGenerate details, assembly drawings and Bills of Material (BOM) for new and existing tooling projectsCreate tooling procedures and user manualsUtilize the PLM application (Team Center) to control tooling documentation and commercial parts creationEnsure manufacturing process optimization, capacity utilization, and waste reductionDevelop novel and innovative technical solutions to solve Manufacturing build challengesAssemble and repair tooling and/or the coordination of outside servicesResponsible for the timely completion of tasks assigned by the Manufacturing Engineering DepartmentCreate and update mechanical assebly drawnings

Required Capabilities 

Must have experience with a solid modeling CAD package(Preferably SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD)Familiar with Electro-Mechanical Manufacturing Processes Able to read and understand Mechanical and Electrical assembly drawingsExperience and high interest in shop floor control activities Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel Must be well organized, goal oriented and able to give attention to detail Strong communication and written skills are a must Experience with AutoCad or SolidWorks are beneficial but not required

Eligible to meet the Controlled Goods Program requirements and be able to hold a Canadian Security Clearance

Desired Education and Experiences 

Enrolled in a Community College or University Mechanical Engineering Program
