Job Description
This position is responsible for the receipt, inventory, storage, and withdrawal of biological specimens, samples, and materials from multiple commercial and government clients, stored at temperatures ranging from ambient to -196°C, having potentially hazardous properties. The role involves using database applications and adhering to standard precautionary procedures while working independently, being self-directed, communicating effectively, and making sound decisions. Interaction with internal or external clients occurs under the guidance of more experienced professional or technical staff. The role includes assembly of kits for sample collection and requires adherence to safety protocols, standard operating procedures, Facility Safety Guidelines, and Food & Drug Administration requirements, including compliance with cGMP CFR 21 parts 210 and 211 where applicable.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare samples for pickups, courier deliveries, and shipments, and potentially deliver specimens to clients.Assemble sample collection kits in accordance with Standard Work Instructions.Monitor temperature and liquid nitrogen (LN2) levels.Participate in after-hours emergency response rotations.Collaborate with managers to support customer inquiries regarding discrepancies in shipments, inventory maintenance, and database updates.Utilize inventory management systems for data entry.Maintain repository files for data validation and prepare reports on information and sample data.Enter samples into a computerized repository database for tracking.Perform internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects under the guidance of a Repository Specialist 3.Engage in process improvement activities.Travel to other facilities as required to meet business needs.Perform other duties as needed to meet business requirements.Essential SkillsAbility to communicate operational information effectively.Knowledge of Universal Precautions and general laboratory and quality control/assurance procedures.Potential need to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.High School Diploma with 1+ years of work experience in data entry, shipping/receiving, or sample management, or a BA/BS degree in Life Science with no experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working with biological materials.Experience handling temperature-sensitive materials.Ability to prepare reports using Excel, with knowledge of Windows, Word, and Access being advantageous.Understanding of methods for handling, processing, and storing specimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system.Work Environment
The work schedule is from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with additional hours as required. The role requires the ability to work in cold environments, using nitrile gloves and other personal protective equipment. The position involves lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, processing and handling materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C) or liquid nitrogen (-195°C) for up to 6 hours per day, and working in walk-in freezers/refrigerators for up to 5 hours per day. Computer use is required for up to 6 hours per day.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
