Operations Quality Engineer

BAE Systems is seeking an Operations Quality Engineer for its manufacturing site in York, Pennsylvania. As an Operations Quality Engineer, you will support manufacturing operations within the Portable Drill, Machining, and Final Weld areas. Your included responsibilities will be to ensure product quality, compliance to technical requirements, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes in support of mission-critical defense systems. You will work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Program teams to resolve production issues, drive root cause and corrective actions, and ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements across machining, portable drill, and weld processes. Primary Responsibilities + Provide floor-level quality support for portable drilling and final weld operations, ensuring adherence to engineering requirements and approved processes + Lead and facilitate root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations using structured methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) + Review and interpret technical data packages (TDPs) including drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure compliance + Support nonconformance management process, including documentation, containment, and participation in MRB activities + Interface with government representatives (e.g., DCMA) and customers during audits, source inspections, and product acceptance activities + Drive and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) for portable drill and weld processes; identify high-risk failure modes and implement mitigation strategies + Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality management system requirements + Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, improving first-pass yield, and supporting on-time delivery (OTD) + Execute Layered Process Audits (LPA) across machining, portable drill, and final weld operations to verify adherence to standard work, control plans, and process requirements + Identify process gaps through LPA execution and drive timely corrective actions, ensuring sustained compliance and process discipline + Provide guidance on inspection methods and acceptance criteria, including threads, machined features, and weldments + Support First Article Inspections (FAI) and validation of manufacturing processes + Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to resolve issues related to machining tolerances, portable drilling accuracy, quality, and weld + Assist in development and refinement of standard work, inspection plans, and quality procedures **Required Education, Experience, & Skills** + Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Technical discipline and two years of related experience, or the overall equivalent. + This role is suited for a mechanically-oriented individual with experience interpreting drawings, standards and specifications, as well as procedures and work instruction documentation. + Requires working knowledge of Quality Assurance / Quality Control fundamentals. + Strong background in problem solving techniques and analysis. + Proficiency in standard and industry-related software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. + Highly effective written and verbal communication skills. + Must be able to effectively package details and data collected from Production and its associated datasets and communicate through verbal and electronic means to broader working teams in support of defining approved courses of action. + Experience working within a manufacturing environment. + Consideration will be given to candidates with additional / senior-level experience. **Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills** + ASQ or similarly-accredited Quality certification. + Experience working in a production program in support of government contracts, preferably DoW. + Formal training in Root Cause Analysis. + Experience developing or maintaining PFMEA and control plans. + Working knowledge of TIPQA or related QMS software. + Experience implementing APQP in a low-rate, technically complex product environment. + Experience engaging with a union workforce. + Qualification or strong background in ISO 9001:2015. + Experience interacting with DCMA and DoW customer personnel. **Pay Information** Full-Time Salary Range: $72150 - $122655 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
