Operations Director
Job Description Insight Global is seeking an Operations Director to join the team of a manufacturing client local to Bryan, TX. This is a direct-hire opportunity supporting a 3-shift machining environment. The selected candidate will oversee operations across all shifts, with supervisors reporting directly to them, and team leads under each supervisor. In total, they will be indirectly responsible for approximately 80 individuals. Typically, the Ops Director should expect to spend about 30-40% of their day on the shop floor, and the rest in the office. This is a daytime, first shift role but because there is oversight of 3 shifts, the hire will be expected to come onsite around 6am 1x per week to meet with the overnight supervisor. They will also need to be available for emergencies as needed. Day to day responsibilities may include: - Lead supervisors, leads, engineers, and managers. - Assess workforce skills and work with HR on training or role changes. - Plan succession and develop skills training for future growth. - Manage all production areas: molding, machining, testing, scheduling, receiving, and shipping. - Ensure output meets cost, quality, and delivery targets. - Standardize processes and enforce accountability across operations. - Own operations P&L, meet budgets, and improve margins. - Prepare for expansion, including staffing, budgeting, and managing new sites. - Apply Toyota Production System principles (takt time, standardized work, visual management, kaizen). - Drive process development and improvement projects with engineering. - Oversee new product introduction and process qualification. - Ensure milestones and customer satisfaction are met. - Work with quality, finance, HR, and sales to align goals. - Coordinate with international teams to standardize practices and share best methods. - Balance workloads between U.S. and India facilities for efficiency and compliance. - Determine work that must remain in the U.S. (e.g., ITAR or restricted items). - Maximize labor efficiencies in India while meeting regulations and customer requirements. Skills and Requirements - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Production, or related discipline). - 10+ years in manufacturing operations leadership. - 5+ years managing multiple functional groups across production and engineering. - Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies. - Machining experience. - Technical proficiency in MS Excel and an ERP (NetSuite preferred).
