HDR is seeking an Operations and Maintenance Rail Systems EIT to join our Toronto office. Reporting to the Section Lead - Systems, Operations and Maintenance, you will be part of the larger North America Rail and Transit Systems Team, working closely with project managers and engineering disciplines on a variety of projects in Canada and the US.

As an EIT with experience in the rail operations and maintenance, you will be responsible for working with a wide variety of rail engineering disciplines. You will need to be creative, hands-on, and good at problem solving, being able to look at projects from a bigger holistic systems perspective. The expectation is that this candidate will have the ability to help lead (internally and in front of the client) the management of OM requirements between systems and infrastructure elements as part of the overall project team.

This position is ideal for an EIT candidate with a broad view and understanding across multiple engineering and project disciplines (including civil engineering, architecture, track, and rail systems).

Key Responsibilities

Developing and achieving approval for operational concepts, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring that all transit agency requirements are met within project and operational plans.Leading/participating in internal and external client meetings, engagement in technical proposals and business development activities, validating functional design concepts and ensure their feasibility. Defining OM specifications for complex infrastructure, facilities, and transportation projects, and this will include collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including Metrolinx, TTC, city agencies, and contractorsDeveloping and implementing OM integration plans while evaluating stakeholder requestsSupport and co-ordinate in undertaking technical reviews of designs, plans, specifications, construction submittals, OM related documents, etc.Support and work closely with the wider Systems Engineering team, including Systems Assurance, RAMS, and Operations Maintenance.Support the development and undertaking of Verification and Validation (VV) processes.Preferred Qualifications A minimum of 3 years’ professional experience, including exposure working on transit or transportation projectsEIT year 3 will be considered, or eligibility for P. Eng licensureKnowledge of industry standard operational simulation software such as OpenTrack Railway Technology software (or equivalent) preferred.Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) preferrable.Experience with REVIT, AutoCAD, BIM principles, and Bluebeam preferred.Knowledge of ProjectWise and various MS Office applications.Understanding of systems integration principles such as interface management and requirements management, including experience using tools such as DOORS NG, and familiarity with ISO15288 Standard would be considered an assetExperience working in large, multi-disciplinary projectsSelf-starter, able to work independently and lead initiatives on projectsAdaptable to different project environments, good communication and interpersonal skillsHighly creative, out-of-the-box approach for problem-solvingRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degreeEngineer in Training (EIT) certificate. Basic knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCADMS Office Applications experience Strong interest in railroad design An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
