Whitby, Ontario, Canada is a commercial manufacturing Center of Excellence within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Pharma Services Group, Drug Product Division, with integrated Pharmaceutical Development Services (PDS) supporting development through commercial supply. The site specializes in conventional dosage forms, including controlled substances and explosion-proof manufacturing, with strong expertise in commercial-scale technology transfer, solid dose manufacturing, flexible packaging, and advanced processing technologies for scalable, high-quality pharmaceutical production.

In the role of Operational Excellence Specialist III, you will be a key driver of continuous improvement, empowering teams to improve processes, increase efficiency, and deliver outstanding customer experiences. By applying PPI and lean methodologies, you will help achieve measurable improvements in quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction while fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.

A Day in the Life

Implement and advance the Thermo Fisher Scientific Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System to drive operational excellence

Lead and facilitate Kaizen events, value stream mapping, and structured problem-solving initiatives

Partner with site leadership and cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, and execute improvement opportunities

Coach and mentor teams in lean methodologies, standard work, 5S, and continuous improvement tools

Manage multiple improvement projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with business objectives

Apply data analysis, root cause analysis, and problem-solving techniques to deliver sustainable results

Track, validate, and report project savings in partnership with Finance

Support change management and stakeholder engagement to ensure adoption of new processes

Develop and deliver lean and PPI training to build organizational capability

Keys to Success

Education

Advanced Degree plus 3 years of experience OR

Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 years of experience

Preferred fields of study: Engineering, Science, Business, Operations, or related discipline

Experience

Proven experience leading continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing, laboratory, or regulated environment

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required; Black Belt preferred

Demonstrated success achieving measurable results through process improvement

Experience developing and delivering lean or continuous improvement training

Strong financial acumen with experience validating project savings with Finance

Experience in a cGMP or regulated environment preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge

Deep understanding of lean methodologies, PPI, and continuous improvement frameworks

Skills

Expertise in value stream mapping, Kaizen facilitation, standard work, and 5S

Strong project management and cross-functional leadership skills

Advanced data analysis and root cause problem-solving capabilities

Excellent communication and presentation skills across all organizational levels

Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Power BI, Minitab, or similar tools preferred

Abilities

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a matrix organization

Strong change management and stakeholder engagement capability

Ability to influence, coach, and inspire teams toward continuous improvement

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Ability to work in an office, manufacturing, laboratory, or regulated environment as required

Occasional travel may be required to support business needs

The salary range estimated for this position based in Canada is $69,400.00–$105,050.00.
