Operational Excellence Engineer III
United States Steel Corporation is seeking an Operations Excellence Engineer for our Minnesota Ore Operations organization. The OPEX Engineer will report directly to the Area Manager – Operational Excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position will be responsible for supporting the projects and efforts to help U. S. Steel achieve its continuous improvement objectives as Minnesota Ore Operations pivots to Best Operations within the Best for All Strategy.  This position also includes managing Minnesota Ore’s pyro-processing engineers.  This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.  The salary range of $101,420 to $152,130 is a good faith estimate.  Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.  Duties include but are not limited to: 

Project ManagementAnalysis and Execution of Improvement OpportunitiesLeverage expertise across the organization to understand and improve upon current processes.Analyze high level opportunities and break them down into actionable components.Apply a disciplined and scientific approach to develop technical solutions for potential opportunities.Translate technical solutions into practical actions.Work with process owners to implement actions that result in process improvements.Implementation of Project Management Systems to Drive Process Improvement:Lead multidisciplinary teams focused on improving performance metrics associated with productivity, efficiency and cost reduction.Develop and manage robust project plans that translate ideas into action with a focus on accountability.Create Key Process Indicators (KPIs) that measure project success and ensure that actions translate into results.Coordinate activities with both internal and external project stakeholders to ensure resources are aligned for project success.Prepare and deliver regular project status updates for key stakeholders in both written and verbal format.Ensure that project milestones, objectives and results are integrated in the greater Best Operations strategy.Development of Organizational Change Integration & Management Efforts: Contribute to the construction of U. S. Steel’s Change Management strategy in support of the transformation program (corporate wide) Ensure that the program teams have a consistent approach for planning for the organization change impacted by their functional area Ensure Program Teams have a consistent method for deploying Organization Changes, Communications, and End User Education to all stakeholdersProvide regular updates, including risks and suggested mitigation to Program Leadership Team regarding organizational change and communication efforts Guide the development efforts for all change, training, and communication related activities Develop project team capability and knowledge transfer approaches for the core and extended program teams Plan, design, and execute the stakeholder analysis Develop end user communication/training strategies including overseeing development of course materials/monitoring adherence to documentation designPeople ManagementLead and direct a team of four (4) process engineersCollaborate with operations teams and other stakeholders to provide technical support for agglomerating and indurating processesActivate team members to support process improvement objectives in their assigned areasUphold high standards in safety, technical analysis and professionalismCoach, mentor and provide performance feedback to develop junior team membersDevelop and align performance goals to support the greater needs of the department and facilityParticipate in talent development, performance review and performance differentiation processesREQUIREMENTS: 

This position requires a technical Bachelor’s degree, or Associate’s degree with relevant equivalent work experience, and at least five (5) years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment.

The candidate should:have project management and execution skills with the capability to drive activities to completion, mitigate risks, and help resolve issues/obstacles preventing progress, in a group that is composed of both local and remote participants.demonstrate previous experience managing issues/risks so they are resolved/mitigated by appropriate stakeholders is necessary. have the ability to communicate (verbally and written) throughout all layers of the organization regarding statuses, issues and risks.Demonstrate the ability to drive improvements in multidisciplinary teams through influence.reinforce a culture with a high degree of emphasis on safety, ethics, and respect, by consistently modeling high standards of performance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

The ideal candidate will:possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied sciences.have demonstrated experience with lean six sigma methodologies.understand the principles around minerals process and mining.exemplify an attitude aligned around a strong desire to analyze, understand and improve processes regardless previous expertise or process complexity.Experience with leading and directing teams in a supervisory role.
