Operating Group Quality Director

SUMMARY  

In partnership with the Operating Group Leadership and the Quality Department, the Operating Group Quality Director is responsible for strategically managing quality within an operating group and ensuring the system is 
fully implemented and operating in accordance with group and company requirements

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Leading Operating Group towards continuous quality improvement including ability to resolve technical issues 

with suppliers, trade partners, customers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.

Lead, oversee and serve as a resource for Quality Managers, Operating Group Leadership, PXs/PMs, and 

Superintendents

Proven ability to resolve cross-cultural conflict in a culturally appropriate way

Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and influence others at all levels of the organization and 

with external partners to drive results

Lead the vision, definition, implementation, and management of the Quality System for the Group to ensure alignment with the company’s Quality System, objectives, and goals

Lead and manage the group’s training on the Quality System and processes for all personnel

Lead setting the standards for and monitoring Group Quality performance 

Lead Group wide dashboard and Quality data collection, reporting, and analysis 

Establish and lead quality initiatives for the group including the Group’s identification, documentation, root cause and trend analysis and corrective action system for significant Quality Issues/Events including call back and warranty issues. 

Oversee the group’s Quality incident reporting, root cause analysis, and preventative actions

Develops leaders through active career sponsorship and providing the right responsibilities and work 

assignments to cultivate growth and development

Support and encourage team member learning and development

Coaches and mentors, the project teams

Assist in identifying, hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, and promoting other quality professionals in the group

Identify opportunities to enhance margin and/or minimize risk on projects through means-and-methods, supplier/material selection, and/or design standardization

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience 

Minimum of 10 years of Quality, engineering, or construction management experience, with experience leading a quality program 

Experience with issue management and inspection of work put in place 

Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks 

Proficient in Microsoft Office 

Strong teamwork orientation, positive attitude, and professional customer service skills 

Intermediate-to-advanced understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices 

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost coding systems 

Previous experience establishing project objectives and monitoring performance 

Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills 

Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies 

Active listening skills and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback 

Ability to travel up to 50%

The base pay range for this role is $133,300 - $200,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). 

 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
