Operating Engineer - Critical Environments

What this job involves:
As an Operating Engineer at JLL, you will provide maintenance, monitoring, and repair services in a critical facilities environment. Under supervisor direction, you will ensure the continuous operation and preventive maintenance of all building systems, including fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear), emergency backup systems, and hot water systems. Your expertise will help maintain maximum reliability and safety for mission-critical environments.

What your day-to-day will look like:

Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance for all facility systems, ensuring continuous operation and compliance with JLL standardsAdjust and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning, boilers, ventilators, hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical/electrical equipmentConduct regular rounds, record readings, and make adjustments to ensure proper equipment operation; analyze system performance and resolve any malfunctions or problemsInstall and repair plumbing, piping, and tubing; wire single and three-phase motors, run conduit, pull wiring, and rebuild/install pumps, air compressors, heat exchangers, bearings, seals, filters, and controlsRepair, maintain, and operate critical equipment including UPS systems, generators, chillers, and critical air conditioning unitsComply with departmental policies regarding safe use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain a clean and safe work environmentOversee activities of contractors within the building, ensuring compliance with facility protocols and standardsMaintain records of building rounds, readings, engineering logs, and data sheetsComplete Critical Environment Operations & HSSE training, and ensure all contractors are informed about critical building functions and emergency contactsUnderstand and comply with emergency escalation proceduresEnsure strict adherence to Critical Facility Work Authorization (CWA), MOP/SOP/EOP protocols, Critical Awareness Process, Technical Bulletins, and established engineering proceduresPerform additional duties as requested

Required Qualifications:

Hands-on experience in a data center or critical facility environment, including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switchgear equipmentHigh school diploma or GED equivalentOperating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalentUniversal Technician certification for CFC’sWorking knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and CMMS platformsStrong verbal and written communication skills; excellent organizational and analytical abilitiesAbility to interpret technical documents and solve complex problems independentlyDemonstrated record of delivering high-quality internal and external customer service

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional technical certifications or licenses relating to critical facility operationsExperience facilitating or training in critical environment protocols

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:

Ability to perform physical inspections, repairs, and maintenance; lifting, climbing, confined space, or rapid emergency response as needed

Estimated total compensation for this position:

59,800.00 – 86,800.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
