Onshore Instrument & Control (I&C) Engineer – Jakarta
Job Purpose

Lead the design, integration, and lifecycle support of instrumentation and control systems for a deepwater upstream oil & gas project. This includes topside Greenfield facilities and brownfield tie-ins to existing assets. Ensure systems meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards across engineering, detailed design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and hook-up & commissioning (HUC) phases.

Key Responsibilities Engineering & Design Design and specify instrumentation systems for offshore platforms, subsea equipment, and onshore facilities. Select instruments for pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement in harsh environments. Develop P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control system architecture. Ensure integration with DCS, SIS, PLC, SCADA, and packaged equipment control systems. Review and implement control philosophies, narratives, and specifications. Project Execution & Support Interface with EPCIC contractors during detailed design (Jakarta office), fabrication (yard), and offshore phases. Oversee installation, calibration, loop checks, and commissioning of control systems. Support FAT, SAT, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and start-up activities. Manage control system scope across engineering, procurement, fabrication, and offshore execution. Compliance & Safety Ensure compliance with international standards (IEC, ISA, ISO, BS, NFPA, TUV Rheinland, PTS). Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL assessments, alarm rationalization, and fire & gas mapping reviews. Design and support safety-critical systems (ESD, F&G). Vendor & Contractor Coordination Review vendor documentation and ensure alignment with project specifications. Coordinate with contractors for installation, testing, and commissioning. Track procurement and delivery progress of control system packages. Maintenance & Troubleshooting Develop preventive and corrective maintenance plans. Diagnose and resolve faults in instrumentation and control systems. Recommend upgrades for aging or underperforming equipment. Documentation & Reporting Maintain records of technical deliverables, calculations, and correspondence. Prepare specifications, datasheets, calibration records, and progress reports. General & Cross-Functional Support Provide technical support to engineering, HSSE, QA/QC, construction, and commissioning teams. Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and interface coordination. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across the business unit. Education Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, or Control Systems. Master’s degree or specialization in oil & gas instrumentation is advantageous. Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) is preferred. Experience Minimum 15 years in oil & gas projects, with at least 10 years in instrumentation and control roles. Proven experience in deepwater projects, including subsea and topside systems. Strong background in EPCIC execution, vendor management, and offshore commissioning. Skills & Competencies Proficient in AutoCAD, SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/Intools). Expertise in DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, and control system integration. Strong understanding of IEC 61508/61511, ISO 9001, and offshore regulatory standards. Knowledge of cybersecurity for control systems (IEC 62443). Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. Willingness to work offshore and adapt to extended schedules. Professional certifications (e.g., ISA CAP, TÜV Functional Safety) are a plus.
