Oncology Health Informatics Specialist

Job Summary

The Health Informatics Specialist leads teams and supports physicians, advanced practice professions, allied health, and nurses in the design, development, implementation, and optimization of healthcare technologies (including but not limited to the EHR) in both the inpatient and ambulatory environments. The Health Informatics Specialist understands future workflow and business process changes impacting the nursing, physician, and ancillary clinical teams to ensure the success of the implementation and ongoing system maintenance. This role will work with staff to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education, quality outcomes and providing support in accordance with organizational goals. The Health Informatics Specialist is skilled in developing consensus and driving and supporting change. Additionally, the Health Informatics Specialist strives to understand clinical and departmental operational processes and incorporates this knowledge to execute best practices in both the clinical and information technology disciplines. Key responsibilities include planning, creating, and implementing clinician adoption programs and ideas in collaboration with service line leaders. This role will develop and implement clinical information systems change, communications of change, development of key performance indicators, and pro-active business intelligence solutions to assess outcomes of this work and physician engagement.

Essential FunctionsCollaborates closely with and communicates between DS Leadership and the Clinical/operational/physician community to provide leadership for clinical system project and system wide initiatives.Effective as a liaison to DS, Communication, and service line leaders and/or medical directors in order to set appropriate priorities and to develop approach for medical and service line concerns.Where applicable, establishes and maintains active databases and files on each physician, including such data as physician preferences, suggestions, activities, issues and concerns, and key contacts. Leverages existing tools when possible. Develops and runs reports as needed. Collects, enters, reviews, and analyzes physician complaint data and works with service line leaders towards resolution and process improvement.Creates a climate of effective collaboration, communication, and cooperation among a variety of disciplines, departments, and roles. Leverages emerging social media and other methods to collaborate with physicians, physician supporters, clinicians, support staff and other stakeholders. Maintains the clinical information system change management databases, evidence-based content, issues tracking tools and other related knowledge bases up to date.Where applicable, coordinates educational content and training to internal and external physicians, their staff, members of the Corewell Health team, and members of the medical staff in partnership with the training team, super users and other clinical support leaders.Travel to and from Corewell Health facilities to support key stakeholders and/or provide onsite training.Support clinical users through education and instruction on features and usage of software.Functions as the primary liaison between digital services staff and clinicians and the medical staff to translate operational processes needs into workable technology solutions. Creatively solves clinical challenges to meet the needs of technology requirements.Supports day-to-day usage of clinical applications and its integration with other computer modules and interfaces, including any new technologies emerging in the future.Ensures that process and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent inn Business, Marketing, Healthcare or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience5 years of relevant healthcare experience educating, consulting,or supporting clinicians, physicians, advanced practice providersBackground in change management, process improvement, and/or project managementExperience with working in an EHR

Preferred

Master’s Degree or equivalent in Health Informatics or other healthcare related fieldExperience working in Oncology (highly preferred)Background in informaticsClinical practice experience
