Join us at Corteva Agriscience for an exciting and impactful 6-month temporary research assistant position designed to give broad based exposure to and contribute to the day-to-day activities of the Field Experimentation team through grower facing on-farm research trials. You will work with a dynamic, best-in-class on-farm program operating in the Farming Solutions & Digital subfunction of R&D. The temporary research assistant position will provide valuable experiences that can be applied to future full-time positions in industry or academia.
In the five statewide remote geographies [(Indiana/Ohio) (Illinois/Wisconsin) (Nebraska/Kansas) (Iowa/Missouri) (Minnesota/South Dakota)] you will serve as an onfarm research agronomist assistant, working closely with the commercial and R&D teams to engage farmers in farmer-participatory research trials. You will be involved in multiple phases of research including farmer recruitment, trial establishment, experimental design, treatment establishment, in-field data collection, and geospatial data management. The research conducted will be used to aid the Farming Solutions and Digital team in delivering digital decision support systems to support data-driven solutions for farmers.
The position duration is 6 months (1000 hours) and can be conducted during the spring semester through summer, or from summer through the fall semester. The preferred timing will depend on location.
Responsibilities – What You’ll Do:
• Assist in data collection including disease scoring, sensor installation and troubleshooting, and UAV data collection.
• Collaborate with team members to aid in data collection using technology and proprietary data collection software and sensors.
• Travel to other field locations as part of the data collection process.
• Contribute to a safe and respectful work environment by following safety policies and procedures provided by the company.
• Work with area on-farm research team members to build relationships and establish trial locations with farmer-cooperators, Corteva sales representatives (Crop Health, Seeds, Biologicals) and agronomists.
• Discuss complex trial protocols to ensure proper execution by farmers. Proactively communicate to anticipate questions and resolve challenges as they arise.
• Assist in collection, curation, and creation of geospatial data including creating trial layouts, collecting and validating as-applied data, and capturing and organizing as-harvested data along with relevant meta data.
• Maintain accurate records of trial execution and progress through strong cooperator communication and contribute to project progress tracking through accurate reporting and data entry to facilitate periodic geographic summaries to leadership team and other stakeholders.

Skills and Requirements
• Ideal for candidates with foundational coursework and/or experience in Agronomy, Agricultural Business or Sales, Plant Sciences, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding, Ag Education, Genetics, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of farming management and agronomic challenges; current seed and crop protection product knowledge.
• Self-starter with attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Curious and critical thinker with a positive attitude and desire to learn.
• Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and cloud data sharing.
• U.S. driver's license and ability to travel. (~50-80% travel required in peak season - vehicle provided).
• Physical Requirements
○ Ability to conduct in-field data collection in potentially hot, humid, or muddy conditions.
○ Must be able to relocate or be local to the geography of the On-Farm Territory.
○ May require working compensated overtime during seasonal peak periods.
○ Must be willing to travel and stay overnight to assist with data collation and workload as needed.
○ Must be willing to work in all outdoor field and farm environments. • FAA Part 107 UAS certificate, or willing to obtain.
• Certified pesticide handler and/or applicator license, or willing to obtain.
• Experience communicating with farmers in a 1:1 setting.
• Experience with geospatial file creation and manipulation through ArcGIS or QGIS is preferred.
