Now Hiring: On-Call Microbiology Laboratory Assistant Job Description Join our team as an On-Call Microbiology Laboratory Assistant, where you will play a vital role in ensuring quality and safety in our laboratory operations. You will follow established guidelines and procedures, contributing to the testing and analysis of samples within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Responsibilities + Understand and follow Quality System documents such as the Quality Manual, SOPs, Methods, and Local Policies. + Adhere to quality measures that meet or exceed ISO/IEC, government regulatory, and company standards. + Follow company guidelines and procedures relevant to assigned duties. + Adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations. + Assist in the daily assaying of samples and perform testing from a daily work list. + Set up and weigh batches of samples. + Identify the need for rechecks from assayed samples. + Prepare solutions for daily sample testing. + Maintain a neat and accurate record system for quality control tests or regulatory purposes. + Record and enter test data and results into eLIMS in a timely and accurate manner. + Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment. + Identify and report method/matrix/analytical difficulties with proposed solutions. + Ensure proprietary methodologies are not disclosed to non-employees. Essential Skills + Proficiency in biology, laboratory procedures, microbiology, media, aseptic technique, and sterile technique. + Experience with quality assurance practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications + AAS or BA degree in Microbiology, Food Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. + Comfortable working in a fast-paced lab environment. + Ability to work independently and multitask effectively. + Strong prioritization skills. Work Environment This part-time, on-call/flex position requires a maximum of 20 hours per week, with shifts typically between 12pm - 8pm on weekdays, and occasional weekends. Shifts are offered on a first come, first served basis, with flexible training hours. You will work in a repetitive and time-sensitive laboratory setting, primarily testing pet food, ingredients, nutraceuticals, and food dyes. The role involves standing for extended periods and requires lab-appropriate attire, including long pants, closed-toe shoes, a lab coat, and safety glasses. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Des Moines, Iowa. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
