Job Type: On-Call, Variable Time

Compensation: $22 - $30 per hour, based on relevant experience

JOB SUMMARY: As an Archaeologist I, you will support a variety of cultural resource projects across the Great Basin region, with a strong focus on work within the state of Utah. This position is not tied to a specific location, offering the opportunity to contribute to diverse field and research efforts throughout the broader region.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:

Serve as a Crew Member, Crew Chief, or Field Director for the project

Conduct Class III (intensive pedestrian) cultural resources inventory

Document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs

Conduct probing or shovel testing

Use hand-held field technology (i.e., ArcGIS phone/tablet application paired with sub-meter GPS receivers)

Survey an average of 50 acres/8 miles per day and carry personal health and safety equipment (i.e., personal water, sunscreen, etc.)

Work in moderate weather conditions (fluctuating temperatures and inclement weather, including rain and snow)

Work independently and efficiently, while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment

Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

Follow instruction and make adjustments when provided feedback

Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership

Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Has completed coursework leading to a degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field:

Crew Member – minimum 2 years of college-level coursework and completion of a field school

Crew Chief – bachelor’s degree, completion of a field school, and 1 year of professional experience

Field Director – bachelor’s degree, completion of a field school, 2 years of professional experience, and is permitted or qualified for agency permitting based on the SOI Professional Qualification Standards

Proficient in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in the Great Basin region

Proficient in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs in the Great Basin region

Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy

Excellent navigational skills (GPS and compass) and ability to navigate and drive 4WD vehicles

Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Proficiency using tablets (Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy) to document cultural resources

Proficiency with sub-meter GPS receiver

Proficiency with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications (for phone or tablet)

Permitted or permittable on BLM lands in the Great Basin (Field Director or Principal Investigator)

Previous NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental trainings

Strong writing and editing skills

Ability to evaluate resources for NRHP-eligibility
