Summary
The Old Idaho Penitentiary Store Manager will oversee the daily operations of the Old Idaho Penitentiary Store. This position, working in alignment with the Visitor Services Coordinator, will procure, receive, stock, and sell merchandise in the Old Idaho Penitentiary store; maintain inventory and related records. This position will also support the goals and objectives set forward by the ISHS Strategic Plan.
** The typical schedule for this position is Sunday-Thursday between 8am-5pm (40 hours per week) depending on the needs of the Old Idaho Penitentiary and will work pre-scheduled evenings as assigned.
Responsibilities
Old Idaho Penitentiary Store Support
+ Follows policies and procedures for Old Idaho Penitentiary store, in alignment with the Agency's strategic plan, other Agency guiding documents, and in accordance with professional standards set by the American Association of Museums and the Museum Store Association.
+ Implements and oversees Old Idaho Penitentiary store operational goals, policies and procedures developed with Historic Sites Administrator and Visitor Services Coordinator.
+ Provides recommendations to the supervisor for necessary changes when appropriate.
+ Maintains adequate and profitable stocking levels.
+ Prepares orders for merchandise and supplies.
+ Leads intake processes for orders received (stocking, tagging, and database input).
+ Processes defective or damaged merchandise returns to suppliers.
+ Use a point-of-sale system to conduct sales, control inventory, and produce reports.
+ Processes all Old Idaho Penitentiary and Agency online store purchases.
+ Cultivates relationships statewide with artisans and vendors to foster a mission based and curated selection of products and goods to sell to the public.
+ Identify innovative opportunities to market and promote the gift shop to the public.
Visitor Services Support
+ Provides support for volunteers and part-time staff in customer service positions. Works during special events, site rentals, educational tours and other programs to maximize opportunities for retail growth.
+ Responds to and resolves customer complaints/problems, partnering with the Visitor Services Coordinator when appropriate.
+ Provide support to agency public programs and outreach efforts as assigned.
Other Functions and Responsibilities
+ This position will work one weekend day each week, in addition to evening/weekend events when necessary.
+ Possess excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple competing projects simultaneously.
+ Exhibit strong interpersonal skills in working with a diverse population and contribute to a work environment that embraces diversity and the development of positive, trustful, influential relationships.
+ Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations with limited supervision.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Good knowledge of:
+ Merchandise ordering and receiving practices to include determining best sources and quantity-Typically gained by at least one year of experience in a retail store involving ordering merchandise and receiving practices to determine best sources and quantity.
+ Physical ability to stand, bend, and stoop for prolonged periods of time and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds- The ability to be willingly AND physically able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping and standing for prolonged periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
+ Working with computerized database systems or point of sale systems- This is typically gained by at least one-year of experience entering, retrieving, and deleting information using a computerized point-of-sale system.
+ Working in a customer focused setting to provide excellent service and experience-Typically one (1) year of work experience in a customer service role where imitating and maintaining collaborative working relationships with individuals, businesses, organizations, and/or managers to ensure that the programs and activities coordinated were meeting the needs of my customer/clients.
+ Supervising store operations in a retail environment-Typically gained by at least one year of experience managing a retail store involving supervision of staff, merchandising, and inventory control; OR at least two years of experience in a retail environment where you were responsible for opening and closing the store, scheduling or modifying staff schedules or modifying staff schedules for coverage, handling customer issues, resolving staff issues, the completion of daily reports, reconciling cash registers, dealing with facility problems or maintenance, and other duties required for operations of the store in the absence of the manager.
