You will use execute all standard work processes on your equipment using AM (autonomous maintenance) and PM (progressive maintenance) standards and ensure that safety processes are observed, and that quality assurance activities are performed. You will understand the losses in their area and equipment and report them.

Nature and Scope 

 

This position is responsible for the operation of the oiler-sander machine which coats candy in oil and sugar as part of the candy finishing process. This position will be back up for mogul service and mogul operator for Makats and NID’s. 

 

 

Major/Essential Responsibilities 

 

Regularly installs sub-components required for operation (such as conveyer belts) as part of machine set up 

Inspects candy and adjusts oil flow, sugar flow, steam, and related mechanical components (oil nozzles, etc.) 

Removes undesirable components from candy such as lumpy sugar, burnt candy, wet starch, deformed candy etc. 

Transfers empty trays over to conveyer belt and scale. Weigh the tray with the depositing candy. Once the tray has reached the required weight, palletize them. 

Cleans all machine sub-components such as filters, iso-flo, etc. 

Starts/stops and controls components of machine such as the steamer, drum, vibrator, feeder belt etc. 

Maintains regular communication with mogul operator 

Carries out equipment sanitation (wash sanders, conveyor belts, etc) 

Monitors control screen 

Regularly inspect and check quality of metal detection belts 

Responsible to continuously clean the area surrounding the workstation 

Knowledge and understanding of SOP’s and work instructions 

Understand, participate and support all safety programs, policies and initiatives within the manufacturing location 

Responsible for ensuring all products produced meets all GMP and food safety requirements 

All other duties as assigned by supervisor 

 

Knowledge and Skills 

 

GMP/Food Safety and HACCP training 

Lockout training 

WHMIS 

Computer literacy and numerical literacy is essential and required, specifically the use of SAP and Quality Suite 

Knowledge of and ability to follow specific and key protocols, policies, etc.  

Some mechanical knowledge, familiarity with machine parts, components fixing jam-ups, cleaning, etc.)  

Problem solving/trouble shooting skills are required 

Skyjack Certification 

Ability to follow directions, pre-set sequences, and steps 

Specified knowledge regarding the adjustment of oil and sugar.  

Train as mogul service and/or mogul operator back up for both technologies (Makat’s and NID’s)  

 

Education 

 

High School Diploma  

 

Experience / Skills 

 

Experience with using production line type machinery or food processing machinery would be an asset. 

Good command of written and oral communication in English 

Effective teamwork and good interpersonal skills 

 

Relationships 

 

Internal:  

Primary contacts required to fulfill the major responsibilities would include Mobile Oiler/Sanders, Mogul Operators, Warehouse Handlers, the Lead Operators, and Shift Supervisor. 

 

External: 

There are no direct, external relationships.

Working Conditions 

 

This position occurs in a food manufacturing plant environment 

Exposure to noise, raw materials, some dust (sugar) and variable temperatures is common 

The use of personal protective equipment is required, particularly protective footwear, eye and hearing protection 

The use of company mandated uniform is required (long sleeve shirts/pants, hairnets, gloves, etc.)
