Offshore Medic
Job Scope
The Offshore Medic is responsible for providing emergency and primary healthcare to all personnel onboard an offshore installation. This role ensures the well-being of the workforce by handling medical emergencies, routine health checks, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The Medic also plays a key role in promoting a healthy and safe working environment.

Duties and responsibilities
Medical Care & Response:
• Provide emergency medical care and primary healthcare to all personnel onboard the vessel.
• Respond to medical emergencies, providing first-aid, stabilizing patients, and determining if further medical evacuation is necessary (in collaboration with the clients medical facilities).
• Conduct routine health assessments, including medical examinations, first-aid treatments, and health surveillance as required.
• Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and injections in accordance with healthcare protocols.
• Manage chronic medical conditions for personnel as required (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).

Medical Equipment & Supplies Management:
• Maintain and regularly inspect medical and first-aid equipment, ensuring that supplies are stocked, up-to-date, and that equipment is functioning properly.
• Coordinate the timely replenishment of medical supplies and drugs in accordance with medical and safety standards.
• Ensure all controlled substances are properly logged and stored in accordance with regulations.

Evacuation Coordination:
• Act as the primary point of contact in case of medical evacuation, coordinating logistics with onshore medical teams, helicopters, and support services.
• Document and report all medical evacuations, ensuring proper procedures are followed and relevant authorities and parties are informed.

Health Surveillance & Compliance:
• Conduct regular health surveillance checks, including drug and alcohol testing, to ensure personnel are fit for duty.
• Ensure all medical records, including injury reports and occupational health data, are available, accurately maintained and stored confidentially.
• Monitor compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, working with the HSE team to mitigate risks and promote a safe working environment.

Training & Emergency Preparedness:
• Deliver health and safety training sessions, including basic first-aid, CPR, and injury prevention techniques to offshore personnel when required.
• Participate in regular emergency response drills (e.g., fire, helicopter crash, man overboard), ensuring readiness in case of emergencies.
• Lead training on proper hygiene practices, wellness initiatives, and preventive health measures.

Health Promotion & Wellness Programs:
• Develop and implement wellness initiatives, dietary recommendations, and physical fitness activities to promote the well-being of personnel.
• Advise personnel on managing health conditions while offshore and provide guidance on mental health issues, stress management, and fatigue prevention.

Occupational Health & Safety:
• Assist in conducting risk assessments, advising on safety measures, and reviewing health and safety protocols with the HSE team when required.
• Collaborate with the offshore management team to identify potential health hazards and implement preventive measures.

Reporting & Documentation:
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, incident reports, and health surveillance data.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly medical reports for the vessel and management when required.
• Ensure compliance with offshore health regulations, ensuring documentation is ready for audits or inspections.

Skills and Requirements: Certification as an Offshore Medic (valid HSE-approved Offshore Medic Certificate or equivalent). Registered nurse, paramedic, or other healthcare professional with significant emergency care experience and 3 years of post-registration experience. Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) or equivalent certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certifications (or equivalent). Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, especially in offshore environment. Experience working in offshore, remote, or isolated environment is preferred. Excellent communication skills and ability to work under pressure. Ability to stay on-site for extended rotation periods if required. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience in health and wellness promotion and injury prevention programs.
