About New Porgera

New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports. 

 

About the role

We are seeking an experienced degree qualified Nurse to join our Porgera based operation supporting our Mine Medical Centre team to provide frontline and preventative medical services for NPL employees, their families and contractors in our active mining environment.   

This is a pivotal ‘hands on’ role providing expert onsite providing frontline nursing care including pre hospital trauma care / emergency response, injury and illness assessment and routine health needs in onsite medical facilities.  The role assists doctors in medical examinations, treatments, and health surveillance programs whilst also administering medications and maintain accurate patient records, ensuring compliance with medical protocols and confidentiality standards.  A key part of the role is supporting health promotion activities by educating workers on hygiene, disease prevention, and wellness practices alongside monitoring chronic health conditions

It is expected that we will communicate clearly about priorities and processes, balancing operational requirements with compliance to deliver fit for purpose, pragmatic solutions, seeking to further improve our working practices, ongoing upskilling of our local and national team whilst participating in ongoing professional development to maintain nursing competencies.

It is expected you model safety behaviours and coach and develop the team, to assess and manage risk.  NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation 

 

About you 

NPL have a supportive and dynamic culture.  You will be a natural self-starter who will bring initiative and ideas to the team, set clear accountabilities and operate with professionalism with a focus on safely supporting operations. Given the dynamic environment, you must demonstrate agility and an ability to work effectively under pressure, understand and meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

To succeed in this role, you must hold a BA in clinical / emergency nursing with current Authority to Practice with Papua New Guinea Nursing Council; Certificate in Basic Life Support, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Certificate/ Competency in phlebotomy / IV cannulation alongside a current driving license.

Certificate in Drug & Alcohol Testing and Pre Hospital Life Support is highly desirable.

You will have a minimum 4 years of clinical experience in emergency department/triage in a remote clinic or mining/oil & gas onsite environment.  ideally combined with occupational health experience and audiometric/ spirometry monitoring, health education and wellness programs and immunisation experience. You will demonstrate a ‘One Team’ approach, providing effective guidance and development to reinforce NPL’s culture and values, always promoting a safe work environment.  The position requires a high energy individual, hands-on management style and desire to continuously improve you and your team’s knowledge and systems and methods of work.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis within Papua New Guinea on a 21/14 roster with a highly competitive remuneration package.
