General Summary:
Works independently and as part of the team to secure mid-level gifts and build the pipeline of future major gift donors to Boston Children’s Hospital. Through phone calls, personal visits, and other meaningful interactions, identifies and qualifies new prospects; cultivates, solicits and closes low six figure gifts; and stewards lead annual and mid-level donors. Personally, manages a portfolio of mid-level giving donors/prospects needing sustained cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
+ Manages a prospect pool of approximately 150 individuals capable of $100k+ gifts; cultivates, solicits and closes low six-figure gifts.
+ Conducts a number of prospect visits monthly to ensure that goals are met, manages and initiates all activity related to prospects consistent with moves management principles, and creatively and persistently seeks connections to new prospects to qualify interest and capacity, and to build pipeline.
+ May act as primary staff liaison to assigned departments/programs and develops annual operating plan forecasting solicitations, and visits for each department staffed, in consultation with the AVP, Principal & Major Gifts and VP, Development.
+ Builds and nurtures effective working relationships with senior management, department chiefs, clinicians, researchers and volunteer leadership to identify funding needs, prepare the case for support, identify prospects and donors, and solicit major gifts.
+ Identifies existing annual donors with the capacity to make larger gifts and develops and implements strategies to build those relationships and cultivate as emerging major gift prospects.
+ Writes, drafts and edits letters, proposals, reports, acknowledgements, case materials, briefings and donor correspondence, planning specific communication for each donor from physician scientists and/or leaders in the institution.
+ Develops an understanding of the breadth of research, clinical, teaching and community service programs of Boston Children’s Hospital and its departments.
+ Works collaboratively with colleagues outside own areas with skill and facility; contributes experience and time to strengthen the team and Trust activities and outcomes.
Required Experience & Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree required.
+ Minimum of 4 years’ progressive experience in development; experience closing annual or major gifts required or the equivalent.
+ Experience in mid- to high-level volume development, preferably in a healthcare setting.
+ Demonstrated ability to position, write, and analyze complex scientific, clinical, research, and medical issues to secure philanthropic support across multiple departments/divisions.
+ Strong strategy development and execution skills, with the ability to collaborate with peers and persuade external organizations and individual prospects regarding cases for support, gift agreements, and relationships with the Trust and the Hospital.
+ Excellent presentation and communication skills.
+ Consistent attention to detail, high productivity, and solution-oriented approach to respond effectively to both staff and donor needs.
