JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision learns to assist in a variety of transportation engineering services. Trains to specialize in a particular area of emphasis within the area of assignment which may include working in both indoor and/or field setting. This is the entry/training level of the Engineering/Technology job series. Incumbents at this level may require additional training or experience to gain full proficiency in some or all of the job responsibilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications JOB DISCLAIMER: This is a hands-on land surveying field position, not an office, phone, or laboratory job. The work takes place outdoors in all weather conditions and includes walking long distances, carrying equipment, and performing physically demanding tasks. Applicants must be comfortable working on uneven ground, around construction sites, and in hot, cold, or wet environments. STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: · High school/ GED AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: + Ability to learn to perform routine engineering support duties for assigned program area (i.e. construction, surveying, traffic operations, lab testing or data collection) + Ability to interpret manuals and instructions. + Ability to learn to operate equipment and/or instruments as required + Ability to assist in data gathering or collect data as requested + Ability to lift 50lbs. + Ability to walk 5 or more miles on uneven terrain. + Demonstrates basic math skills (percentages, area of a triangle, trapezoid or circle, volume of a cylinder, rectangular prism, and unit conversions). + Commitment to providing quality customer service · Must have the physical strength, agility, and stamina necessary to perform the core responsibilities of the job. · Statewide travel is required. · Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: · 4 years survey experience in transportation related surveys · 2 years of experience processing survey data utilizing Trimble Business Center or any other software for roadway survey projects. · 4 years of experience operating/training with total station, GPS, GPS static and/or terrestrial LIDAR to include but not limited to: Trimble M3, S7, or S8 total stations/Trimble R8 or R10 GPS units/Trimble DiNi Electronic Level/Leica P40 laser scanner/Trimble TSC3 Data Collector. · 4 years’ experience with Aerial photos and geodetic control. In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
