Position summary:
The Occupational Therapist will independently assume responsibility and accountability for the evaluation, assessment, and creation of a plan of care for patients assigned to their care. The occupational therapist will work in accordance with facility and departmental policies and procedures and maintain the highest quality of patient care. The occupational therapist is responsible for and will collaborate with occupational therapist assistants with whom they delegate patient care. This colleague will work cooperatively and collectively with the varying interdisciplinary teams established throughout the facility.
The occupational therapist is responsible for the maintenance of their national certification, state licensure, and the necessary requirements for continuing education. The occupational therapist is responsible to the service area manager and/or the designated site leader.
What the Occupational Therapist will need:
Must be a graduate of a Master's or previously equivalent educational program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
Required: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Occupational Therapy.
Preferred: Master’s Degree (M.S) in Occupational Therapy.
Required Certification and Licensure:
State of Michigan Occupational Therapist License or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire.
What the Occupational Therapist will do:
Independently evaluate the functional abilities/disabilities of the client including the ability to perform activities of daily living, mobility, range of motion, strength, coordination, or other functional limitations. This individual will establish a functional baseline and plan of care to be used to demonstrate progress through therapeutic intervention.
Colleagues will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.
Accountable for the application of a written treatment plan and administers treatment for each patient according to the stated goals.
Appropriate goal setting and development of a care plan to maximize the patient’s functional potential through therapeutic intervention.
Utilizes a variety of modalities as appropriate to enhance patient progress. Instructs patients in varying programs appropriate to enhance performance and cultivate progress toward occupational therapy goals.
