Employees sleep in their own accommodation (generally tents). Nutritious and delicious hot meals are provided on workdays. Common areas and shower facilities are provided. Work rotations vary – generally four days on, one day off. Approximately May 1 – July 31st with possible extension. Fulltime focus on safety for the duration of each project and outdoor fieldwork in variable weather and terrain. **Pay: B** ased on qualifications and experience. Starting at $300 per day. **Job Description** **WHAT'S THE JOB?** The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and maintaining a strong Safety-First culture across all operations. The Safety Manager is responsible for leading, implementing, and maintaining all safety systems, programs, and controls across Outland tree-planting operations. This role ensures full compliance with company policies, provincial OHS legislation, industry standards, and client requirements. The Safety Manager provides training, oversight, and support to field supervisors and drives continuous improvement through data-driven safety programs and accountability. The Safety Manager plays a critical leadership role in fostering a proactive, solution-focused approach to risk management, incident prevention, and emergency preparedness. **Safety Program Leadership** + Uphold all corporate safety expectations, safe work procedures, and legislated OHS requirements. + Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Outland’s safety management system, including digital tools (JotForm, Smartsheet, SPHERA, and FLEECE digital toolbox). + Promote and champion a culture of accountability, wellbeing, and hazard focused prevention. **Safety Committees & Prevention Program** s + Lead the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) at the project level. + Lead incident prevention initiatives and proactive hazard reduction strategies. + Oversee safety reporting, investigations, and all related correspondence. **Training & Competency Development** + Coordinate and assist in delivering safety training to Management and field workers (e.g. orientation, daily expectations, ERPs, ATV competency, emergency drills). + Deliver and maintain training materials and competency checklists. + Coach management on effective safety leadership and incident prevention strategies. **Field Support, Inspections & Audits** + Conduct regular site visits to assess safety practices, identify hazards, and support with corrective actions. + Perform audits including: + Planter wellness + Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) + Camp safety + Worksite assessments + Equipment and vehicles + Ensure all inspection and audit findings are documented and completed. **Incident Management & Investigations** + Lead or support investigations into all incidents, near misses, and high-risk events. + Ensure timely reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning. + Communicate findings and corrective measures to regional leadership and HSEQ Managers. **Emergency Preparedness** + Act as the project Emergency Medical Responder and be prepared to respond to medical and safety emergencies. + Maintain and upkeep emergency medical supplies and equipment. + Ensure Emergency Response Plans (ERP) are current, site specific, and well communicated. + Confirm all crews understand evacuation routes, communication procedures, and medical response requirements. + Assist supervisory teams in executing drills and documenting results. **Compliance & Documentation** + Ensure compliance with all applicable provincial, federal, client, and company safety requirements + Create and update Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), and FLHAs + Maintain accurate and timely records of inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions. + Prepare safety reports for management, clients, and, when required, regulatory bodies. + Support COR, ISO, or other certification audits (if applicable) + Stay current on legislation and industry best practices **Qualifications** **WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?** + Safety leadership training/experience and/or Emergency medical response training/experience. + Strong knowledge of provincial OHS legislation across Canada. + OFA Level 3 or equivalent (required). + Valid driver’s license (Class F in Ontario, Class 4 in Alberta) with a clean abstract is an asset; ability to operate ATVs safely with proper certification. + Valid WHMIS, First Aid, ATV, TDG, or similar certifications are considered an asset. + Treeplanting or forestry field experience is an asset. + Strong communication, coaching, and problemsolving skills. + Ability to travel to remote camps and work in rugged outdoor environments. **Competencies** + Leadership and influence in safety culture + Strong judgment and risk assessment skills + Highquality documentation and reporting + Ability to train and motivate diverse teams + Calm, steady, and effective under pressure + Tech savvy with digital tools **Additional Information** **WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU? ** + Rapid advancement into leadership roles — your career accelerated! + Mentorship from industry experts and dedicated training programs + Exposure to a wide range of accounts and operational challenges + The opportunity to grow within a company that values talent, mobility, and development Dexterra Group is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
