Occupational Health Nurse (LPN or RN)

CAREER OPPORTUNITY:The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality care and support for employees’ health and safety needs. This role focuses on managing work-related injuries and illnesses, promoting wellness initiatives, ensuring compliance with occupational health standards, and collaborating with various departments to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. The nurse collaborates with the safety team, HR, and management to foster a safe and healthy work environment. This role reports to the Safety and Health Manager.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock:Injury and Illness Management:- Coordinate and provide care, treatment, and follow-up for work-related injuries and illnesses.
- Document all aspects of nursing assessments, treatments, discharge instructions, and follow-ups.
- Serve as a for health services, rehabilitation, return-to-work, and case management.
- Manage, coordinate, and implement medical surveillance programs, including Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, and Respiratory Protection.
- Conduct annual employee wellness screenings and audiograms (COHC certification required).
- Assist Occupational Medical Doctor with new hire, return-to-work, and incident response team physicals.
- Maintain and safeguard the confidentiality of employee medical records.
- Assist the Safety Manager with OSHA logs for Workers’ Compensation cases and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
- Coordinate with the company’s Workers’ Compensation Third Party Administrator (TPA) and file necessary claims.
- Support wellness initiatives, including weight loss, blood pressure monitoring, and health education.
- Administer allergy medications, vaccinations (e.g., COVID, flu, tetanus, hepatitis B), and other health interventions.
- Oversee inventory, ordering, and maintenance of medical and safety supplies.
- Monitor expiration dates and ensure proper calibration and maintenance of medical equipment.
- Facilitate drug screenings (random, suspicion, property damage, return-to-work, etc.).
Collaboration and Support:- Work closely with Safety and Human Resources, to support facility health and safety goals.
- Assist employees with benefits questions, Disability Leave/FMLA/Military Leave paperwork, and return-to-work programs.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and employee medical files.
- Perform administrative tasks assigned by HR and Safety Manager.
- Stay updated on occupational health best practices through continuing education and maintain relevant certifications.
Qualifications:Education: Current Nursing license in Virginia for RN or LPN with COHN.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with a background in occupational health, emergency care, or primary care preferred.
Strong clinical skills and ability to respond to emergencies.
Working knowledge of all local, state, and federal regulatory compliance, laws, and regulations regarding but not limited to HIPAA, Blood Borne Pathogens, Worker Compensation, OSHA, ADA, and Hazard Communication.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite.

Competitive salary based on experience. Salary Range is $65,200 - $97,800.
