Job Overview:
The OB Safety Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, directing and/or evaluating patient safety and quality improvement to ensure the highest level of performance is achieved. The OB Safety Officer collaborates with the Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, Nursing Education, and Research Department. They develop unit goals and keep abreast of current trends, based on the current healthcare environment. Serves as a resource for staff and other colleagues.

Coordinates departmental safety assessment and process improvement in the obstetrical service in conjunction with the nursing staff, medical residents, physicians, Nurse Managers and the Director of NursingEvaluates the practice of all staff in Labor and Delivery Operating Rooms by developing and implementing an audit process for OR sterility, temp and humidity, time out procedures, attire and takes an active role in assuring best practice standards are metIdentifies staff educational needs and provides educational opportunities in collaboration with the Obstetrical Nurse Educator, nursing leadership team, OB resident coordinator, OB Resident Director and OB ChairmanPerforms chart audits for perinatal harm, less than 39 week inductions, steroids for deliveries 24-34 weeks, elective induction and Pitocin augmentation, vacuum deliveries and hypertensive crisisImplement Process Improvement to maintain supplies and equipment throughout the OB department related to OB emergenciesConducts interdepartmental rounds to identify and rectify safety concernsFacilitates discussions of safety concerns after OB emergencies by implementing interdisciplinary debrief processCoordinates on unit simulation drillsCovers the Obstetrical services as neededOther Duties:
