Basic Function

 

The job of Nutrition Services Satellite Kitchen Operator is done for the purpose/s of overseeing, monitoring, preparing, heating, and serving food items to students and/or school personnel at a satellite food service kitchen, and maintaining food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.

This job reports to Designated Administrator.

 

 

Representative Duties

 

 

Essential Functions

Checks with administration for the purpose of ensuring specific dietary needs of students.  

Communicates with students, staff, and visitors for the purpose of exchanging information and maintaining good customer service.  

Inspects deliveries of all food and beverage items for the purpose of ensuring quality and accuracy received items.  

Inspects food items, food preparation, temperature, and service areas for the purpose of ensuring food and beverages, and serving area are clean and sanitary according established guidelines.  

Inventories food, condiments, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of items required for meeting projected menu requirements. 

Operates computer for the purpose of completing transactions of student meals.  

Prepares hot and cold food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements.  

Prepares written documents (e.g. inventory, daily meal counts, temperature of certain food items, malfunctioning equipment, etc.) for the purpose of notifying supervisor of needed item and supplies, repairs, and operating issues; and as required by established laws.  

Records students and adult meals for the purpose of ensuring the number of meals served each day are accurate.  

Serves food and beverage for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.  

Sets up food service lines (e.g. steam tables, utensils, trays, disposals, and beverage coolers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring students receive food and beverage items safely, efficiently, easily. 

Marginal Functions 

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

 

Initial/Minimum Qualifications

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from High School OR General Education Development (GED) equivalent. Two (2) years of experience in a job-related field, which includes one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any other combination of education, training, and experience, which demonstrates that the applicant is likely to possess the required skills, knowledge, or abilities, may be considered.

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California Class C driver's license.

Valid Managers Food-Safety certification.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Working Conditions

 

 

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment found in serving warm and cold food items.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures in heating, mixing, preparing, and serving food and beverage items; quantify food preparation and handling; HACCP guidelines; and sanitation practices.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: performing basic math; operating kitchen machines and equipment; working as part of a team; and working with interruptions; planning and organizing work; and adhering to safety practices; basic math.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 15% walking, and 80% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
