Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (ACNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AG ACNP)

Tertiary/Quaternary Facility ICU Experience

EXPERIENCE:
Due to the highly autonomous nature of this role, the ideal candidate will be a highly motivated medical professional with a minimum of 5 years of Critical Care ICU or Emergency Department experience as an RN or ACNP/AG ACNP at a large tertiary/quaternary facility. Critical Care ICU experience preferred.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE & JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ACNP is the provider caring for the patient on all rotor wing and fixed wing transports. They are responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and interventions necessary for the patient while working in the team environment with the Registered Nurse or Paramedic.

- Assessing, stabilizing, and managing critically ill and injured patients during interfacility or scene transports, prior to and during transport.
- Assess health status by obtaining relevant health and medical history.
- Performs a physical exam based upon the age and patient history as per the Standard Care Arrangements with the collaborating physician.
- Documents findings in medical record immediately post mission.
- Orders, interprets and evaluates laboratory test and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
- Collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure safe and quality patient care.
- May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through Ohio Board of Nursing, CCF Policies, and CCF Institute Guidelines.
- Placement of arterial lines, central lines, advanced airway management, ventilator management, and tube thoracostomy.
- Assuring appropriate triage and resource utilization.
- Medical control for nursing staff on the mobile intensive care unit.

*eHospital – The NP functions as the provider through distance health tools for patients in ICUs and extended care facilities.

SCHEDULE:
- (3) 12-hour shifts per week, plus Fixed Wing on-call coverage required with minimum (4) 24-hour call shifts per 8 weeks
- Quarterly CCT-specific training requirements
- Day/night/weekend/holiday rotations
- Overnight and international travel required
- Travel to each base required (CCF main campus, Burke Lakefront Airport, Wadsworth Airport, CCF Administration Building Beachwood)

CRITICAL CARE TRANSPORT SPECIFIC SUMMARY:
- Assess, Diagnose and Treat critically ill or injured patients of all age groups (NP will function as RN on any patient age 0-13), provide diagnostic and therapeutic intervention in preparation for rotor wing, fixed wing transports. Required to complete ground transports with RN during inclement weather conditions.
- Autonomously manage patients during transport.
- Perform peer chart audits based on requirements of the QA Committee.
- Maintain competencies in all equipment used for transport as well as all circulatory devices including but not limited to IABP, LVAD, Impella, ECMO.
- Participate in required quarterly case review and educational days, including but not limited to simulation lab and invasive procedures competency.
- Adherence to safety standards set by CCF CCT including safety days and AMRM compliance.
- Community outreach education for prehospital and hospital staff.
- Report to remote locations based on needs of CCT.


APRN: Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions in collaboration with a physician according to a standard care arrangement and specialty certification.
 

PA: Nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides primary and or specialty medical care (the practice of medicine) in a variety of healthcare settings. Functions with the collaboration agreement of a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730). Performs complete histories and physicals on patients of all ages to establish and record patient's current health status. Develops a working diagnosis and treatment plan to provide continuing medical care, including daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, discharging patients and completing discharge summaries. This medical care may be in a variety of clinical settings. PA's are privileged by the Board of Governors. PA's in this role provide advanced care to patients within any setting in which patients have complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions. Practices in any setting in which patients require complex monitoring and therapies and high intensity medical/surgical interventions and/or continuous vigilance within the range of high-acuity care.
