In this role, you will provide bedside clinical support, promote evidence-based care, and ensure adherence to CDC/DPH standards. We’re looking for a collaborative, proactive leader who fosters strong relationships with staff and interdisciplinary teams to support high-quality patient outcomes.
The Dialysis Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Nurse Practice Specialist (NPS) will lead quality initiatives by analyzing clinical outcomes, reporting data to leadership, and driving continuous improvement. This role ensures compliance with CMS and Joint Commission standards, monitors internal and external quality metrics, and identifies opportunities for enhanced performance. The ideal candidate will serve as the subject matter expert in hemodialysis during regulatory surveys, including those by DPH and the Joint Commission.
The CNS or NPS will provide expert consultation, mentor staff, and support professional development through orientation, education, and competency assessment. They will collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to advance clinical practice, improve patient outcomes, and promote a culture of safety and excellence.
Principal responsibilities:
• Provide consultation services for the inpatient hemodialysis unit as well as inpatient peritoneal dialysis patients.
• Build and maintain nursing policies and procedures related to hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
• Build and deliver educational opportunities related to peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis.
• Performs as the content expert in both CMS and the Joint Commission regulations as it applies to inpatient and ambulatory dialysis services.
• Responsible for regulatory reporting and updates in a variety of reporting platforms including EQRS, NHSN, IPRO learning, among others.
• Leads quality improvement initiative to optimize the use of the electronic medical record.
• Supports physician and nursing leaders as needed on clinical quality initiatives.
• Utilizes nursing knowledge to prepare, review data and data collection procedures.
Qualifications
Requirements:
a. Graduation from a graduate degree program with a clinical practicum designed to prepare the graduate for practice as a CNS that is approved by a national accrediting organization for academic programs acceptable to the Board; and
b. Successful completion of, at minimum, core content at the graduate level in sophisticated assessment, advanced pathophysiology and pharmacotherapeutics.

a. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field.
