ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Duties Specific to an Urgent Care RNII:
· Triages patients quickly and efficiently per the Urgent Care’s policies specific to Triage.
· Must quickly, efficiently and calmly respond to emergent and critical situations.
· Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
· Proficient in IV skills and administration of emergency medications
· Manages the complex care of critically ill and injured patients preparing them for transport to Mercy Medical Center.
· Communicates with patients at a level consistent with age and understanding.
· Checks and maintains medical equipment and supplies.
· Utilizes multiple teaching methods. Discharge instructions are reviewed and understanding acknowledged by the patient/family.
· ACLS certification required within 6 months.
General RN Duties
· Demonstrates current level of knowledge of various payor regulations
· Demonstrates expert practice skills that include flexibility, priority setting, problems-solving, conflict resolution, negotiating and networking skills, decision-making, work delegation and organization, and verbal/written communication skills.
· Accurately and legibly documents all patient interactions in the patient record.
· Demonstrates self-directed learning needs and seeks ways to meet own professional development.
· Demonstrates sound knowledge bases and actions in the decision making process for designated patient populations.
· Documents program specific outcomes.
· Applies professional nursing skills in the provision of preventive health maintenance and/or treatment of illness.
· Works independently to assess and evaluate understanding of disease process, treatment plan and/or lifestyle changes.
· Facilitates interdisciplinary communication.
· Proficient in IV skills pertinent to IV hydration
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
· Responsible for following equipment maintenance protocol, identifying problems, and coordinating appropriate repairs.
· Operates various office machines (i.e. fax, copier, phone and computer).
· Answers and routes multiple telephone calls and faxes, takes and directs messages and information. Receives and arranges appointments for providers and patients for patient meetings, procedures, and appointments and sends correspondence as designated.
· Miscellaneous office duties such as greeting patients, answering phone, filing and/or retrieving medical records, and scheduling patient appointments.
· Maintains general files and supplies.
· Maintains orderly, neat appearance of work area.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· RN Required. BSN preferred.
· Licensed by State of Iowa as an RN.
· Demonstrates effective teaching techniques, applying adult learning principles.
· Demonstrates ability to coordinate appropriate educational materials for patients and their support systems.
· Knowledge of and practical use of good business English, spelling, arithmetic, practices and the ability to communicate effectively using written and verbal skills.
· CPR Certification
· Mandatory Reporting Certificate (obtain within 90 days of start date).
