What We Offer Nurse Manager - Emergency Department Novant Health Pender Medical Center is a critical access hospital with additional skilled nursing home beds in Burgaw, NC. Our services include 24/7 emergency care, surgery, imaging, infusion therapy, and physical rehabilitation services. Pender Memorial Hospital, a 22-bed emergency room is seeking a Nurse Manager.Relocation assistance provided. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm Work Status: Exempt Location: Pender Memorial Hospital, 507 E Freemont Street, Burgaw - North Carolina 28425 What You'll Do Clinical Operations & Patient Care + Oversee day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care + Ensure compliance with evidence-based nursing practices, clinical protocols, and regulatory standards + Monitor patient flow, throughput, triage effectiveness, and length-of-stay metrics + Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize clinical outcomes + Lead initiatives to improve patient safety, quality of care, and patient experience Leadership & Staff Management + Recruit, hire, orient, and retain ED nursing staff + Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations for nursing team members + Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement + Address staff concerns, conflicts, and disciplinary actions in accordance with policy + Promote staff engagement, resilience, and well-being in a high-stress environment Staffing & Scheduling + Develop and manage staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage based on patient acuity and volume + Monitor staffing productivity, overtime usage, and staffing ratios + Coordinate staffing adjustments during surges, disasters, or staffing shortages Quality, Safety & Compliance + Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, EMTALA, and other regulatory requirements + Lead quality improvement initiatives, audits, and performance improvement projects + Monitor and analyze key quality indicators, incident reports, and adverse events + Implement corrective actions and follow-up education as needed Education & Professional Development + Support ongoing education, competency validation, and skills development for ED staff + Ensure completion of required certifications (e.g., BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC) + Encourage professional growth, leadership development, and evidence-based practice Budget & Resource Management + Assist in development and management of the department budget + Monitor supply usage, equipment needs, and cost-containment efforts + Collaborate with administration on capital planning and resource allocation Communication & Collaboration + Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, administration, and ancillary departments + Participate in hospital committees, leadership meetings, and emergency preparedness planning + Communicate departmental goals, changes, and performance outcomes clearly and consistently Emergency Preparedness + Participate in disaster planning, mass casualty response, and emergency drills + Ensure staff readiness for internal and external emergency situations What We're Looking For + Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Bachelors Degree in Nursing, required. Graduate Degree, preferred. + Experience: + Two years demonstrated leadership experience, preferred. + Three years clinical RN experience in an acute care setting, preferred. + Licensure/Certification: + Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required. + NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required. + Board certification in area of practice, preferred. + Additional Skills (required): Understands and applies: current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility; equipment used in performing assigned duties; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; skills in interviewing and selection process; understanding of budgeting, staffing, payroll and purchasing processes; implementation of competency, feedback, development and progressive discipline processes; teambuilding, conflict management, and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations; principles of change management.
