Nurse Director of the Center for Global Cancer Medicine
The Nurse Director of the Center for Global Cancer Medicine (CGCM) at DFCI is responsible in collaboration with the Medical Director for strategic planning, clinical/business development, operational and financial oversight as well as program evaluation of global oncology efforts in the low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in which the center works. As appropriate, the Nurse Director will lead efforts to identify and build new relationships that would expand CGCM’s reach into LMICs. The Nurse Director will continually foster the essential relationships across Partners In Health (PIH), Ministries of Health, in-country universities, and US based health institutions dedicated to advancing global cancer care, as well as other non-governmental organizations, donors, and other parties. In collaboration with the Medical Director, the Nurse Director is accountable for continued growth of the DFCI CGCM, including increasing physician, nursing, pharmacy and other discipline engagement and expertise as needed both within and outside of DFCI with the goal to improve global cancer care in LMICs and to identify opportunities of collaboration and potentially greater impact. In collaboration with the Medical Director and in-country leaders and staff, the Nurse Director is accountable for the design, implementation and funding of programs to advance oncology care, oncology education and retrospective and prospective clinical trials research in LMICs where we work. The Nurse Director will partner with a diverse group of clinical and administrative colleagues from within DFCI and partnering organizations to build effective, efficient, and reliable systems to advance cancer care, education and research. In consultation with the Medical Director, the Nurse Director develops effective approaches for financial management including expense control, maximization of the program’s productivity as well as fundraising activities. The Nurse Director of the CGCM is accountable to clinical leaders at PIH’s Coordination site (Boston) and to in-country site PIH leadership to advance the mission of the program. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals. **PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** **Strategic Planning** + Develops and articulates the vision for the interdisciplinary oncology practice within the Center for Global Cancer Medicine and communicates that vision across DFCI + Collaborates internally with other senior leaders and externally with national and international partners in the design and strategy to promote new and ongoing program development and sustainability of cancer care in LMICs **Clinical Operations in LMIC Program Sites** + In conjunction with PIH and in-country site leadership: + Establishes and maintains management of daily operations based on mutually developed standard operating procedures and evidenced based practice standards + Develops, implements, and continually improves structures, functions, processes, policies, standards, procedures, and communication mechanisms to assure highly efficient, safe, quality, patient and family centered care within the country context + Designs and implements information systems that support workflow optimization, clinical care, and data collection + Collaborates with in country leaders and research structures to assure safe, effective, research protocol implementation and data monitoring + Recruits, trains, evaluates, and supports expert clinicians to meet the operational needs of in-country oncology programs to provide technical expertise either in person or remotely **Program Monitoring, Improvement and Evaluation** + Working with in-country leaders and staff, establishes key performance indicators and success metrics + Develops systems to collect high quality data for outcomes measurement and research + Provides oncology expertise to guide monitoring, evaluation, and improvement activities **Financial Planning and Management; Development Responsibility** + In consultation with the Medical Director, oversee the DFCI CGCM operating budget and global oncology gift accounts + Participates in efforts to increase donor funding and raise CGCM visibility, in conjunction with the Center for Global Health Equity and DFCI Development resources + Seeks and provides oversight for external funding and grant opportunities which align with DFCI CGCM, PIH and site initiatives and goals + Works with DFCI and PIH legal teams to amend master program agreement as needed and develops annual financial agreement with in-country PIH leaders and PIH Coordination site. **Nursing Leadership** + Participates in DFCI Nursing and Patient Care Services Department meetings and opportunities. + Establishes collaborative relationships with other nurses at DFCI who support international nursing training and capacity building initiatives. + Works collaboratively with the Chief of Nursing at PIH and in-country Nursing Directors and managers to achieve shared strategic goals. + Serves as a DFCI nursing representative for various oncology organizations at a global level. These organizations address various global oncology nursing issues and may include ONS, WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative, WHO Global _Initiative_ for _Childhood Cancer_ , International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the International Society for Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC). + Acts as an advocate for nursing in LMICS, including the promotion of nurses as leaders and specialized oncology training for nurses. + Contributes to nursing policy within professional organizations and in-country Ministries of Health and Nursing Councils. **Clinical Nursing Practice and Education** + Utilizes evidence-based resources to collaboratively support oncology nursing practice in LMICs. + Mentors in-country nurses and educators in all aspects of oncology nursing including but not limited to safe and high-quality patient care, policy development, quality assurance, and procedure generation in alignment with countries/hospital’s processes. + In collaboration with in-country experts, identifies training needs and prepares training material, exercises, and other learning activities. + Assists in-country nurses in the implementation of quality improvement projects, including data collection, analysis, and outcome evaluation. + Participates in weekly tumor boards and educational sessions for all oncology disciplines. + In conjunction with in-country colleagues, identifies, and promotes educational opportunities for nurses. + Promotes sharing across PIH sites related to oncology nursing practice and clinical reference resources. + Serves as a mentor and resource for in-country expatriate oncology nurse educator. **SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:** supervises CGCM Administrative Assistant At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong.
